Best fitting 99 spec front bumper

Without license plate, so that rules out OEM. I want no fittment issues, and would prefer it use the stock 93 rebar.

You could buy an OEM '99 and have your body shop shave the license plate.

I hear bad things about urethane, so I really don't want that. Plus, I want to not have to take it to a body shop, just have it painted and bolted on.

whats so bad about the OEM urethane? wont explode like glass or "wet" carbon-fiber if impacted.... much more resistant to paint chips, and will flex way before it breaks....

a body shop shouldnt charge much to shave the OE bumper's plate mount with fiberglass cloth when they are going to prep it for paint anyway

I have the Petting Racing 99 spec front end. It's fiberglass. The fitment is great. Sucked the one time I forgot to engage the clutch before I tried to start the car in the garage and rammed the wall. Cost about $150 to repair and repaint.

When the car gets back you can check the quality out - and go for a little test drive

OEM bumper shaving the plate holder off!

OK body shop guys I need your input here as well.
I have purchased 2! OEM 99 spec bumpers in the past and attempted to shave the plate off. DONT DO IT!
The first shop put in 25 hours (they were very frustrated but didn't charge me for the whole time) of work and it still did not look good. The second shop just destroyed the bumper (yea they reimbursed me).
Point is I have never seen anyone shave off the license plate holder off the OEM bumper and had it look good for any length of time. It will warp, bubble, bend etc... We tried it a couple of ways...plastic weld a donor urethane piece into the hole...cut the plate off first (big mistake!) and patch the hole with fiberglass....
Sorry guys I don't know if this could ever work. The best way is to go with the Pettit bumper. With fiberglass at least it's repairable! Or live with the 99 spec bumper the way it is....flying brick and all!

cheers,

V

Hopefully it will be all worth it. Well, nothing is worth all the pain you have been through, but hopefully you will enjoy it.

700+ to the wheels shouldn't be too shabby. Not to steal the thread, but all of the stud kit reaming is now done, the engine has been ported and exhaust matched and they're working on the center oil modification. Today, everything should be cleaned up and then its reassembly time so by mid-next week, then engine should be running again.

I hate to bring this thread alive again but any new updates on a company selling a good plateless bumper. I searched here and most threads are a few years old and maybe some things got better......Looking for a good plateless bumper...Maybe a feed type II.

Basically all plateless polyurethane 99 spec fronts are from the same mold that rotary extreme did a few years ago. In other words, fitment is same no matter who you buy it from.
