Battery smells like rotten eggs...

I have the optima yellow top and I think it went sour, since it got banged up, but it still works. Is it bad when they start smelling like rotten eggs? battery acid I take, but I dont see any liquid.

I'd definitely replace it.. you might have a very small leak releasing fumes.

Marvin,

It is definitely time to replace the battery. The battery acid contains sulphur, which would explain the rotten egg smell. Besides, it is much easier to replace the battery then trying to get rid of the battery acid from your new paint job.

Well, Ive already replaced my yellow top for a red top , and it doesnt stink at all anymore in the car, so thats good. But I still have the broken yellow top in my gargage, but it doesnt smell at all. It would only start smelling when the car was running. But, I'll throw it away soon anyways, thanks for the insight.

The chemical reaction inside the battery only occurs when it is in use... IE recharged or drained.. therefore thats when u will get the smell

Hence, he's not allowed in my car anymore unless he's going to abide by the No shirt, No shoe, No ride policy.

I can ride Teddy all day, but thats only because he pulls the same **** on me whenever he's on the phone with his love muffin . I pity the fool who goes canyon racing with sandals and a phone in his ear ignoring us the whole time and then when he gets off the phone tries to steal my keys and take off with my car.
