Audio system problems
Audio system problems
I'm having a wierd problem with my head unit for my car. Its an aftermarket head unit called Xploid (I think thats the name) from Sony, but I think everything else is stock as far as the audio setup is concerned. I'm on the touring setup (snake and all). Now the wierd part is, I stalled the car and now the unit won't power up. I was wondering if these units have a secruity feature that locks it or something. Also, the battery had power and everything but it just doesn't power up anymore. If anyone knows what could be the problem or what kind of shop I should go to to get it looked at, the help would be much appreciated
.
Thanks,
Josh

If it did have a security function, it would still power up to ask you for code. Check all your fuses. If that doesn't do it, pull the unit out and see if there is a fuse on the back - I'm not 100% sure, but I believe there is one back there on yours.
When you say it's the touring ed. Dose that meen you had the bose stock system with it? If it's the bose and with you using the aftermarket head unit, is why it's not going to work right. The bose speakers use an amp for each speaker that works pretty much off the stock head unit only.
AustinCustoms: How do I check if the fuse is still working?
racer88:I'm using the bose unit. It was working before so I don't think thats the problem. It was installed in the car when I got it so I'm not to sure how they got it working though, they probably went with custom wiring.
Thanks,
Josh

The fuses are clear, and you should see a silver wire in there. If the silver wire is broken in half of there is any indication that it burned up, get new fuses. Refer to my pictures. you will have the "blade type" fuse in the back of your head unit. When i say silver wire, i'm refering to that little silver piece that connects the two terminals of the fuse. If the fuse is bad, that will be broken/burnt/not there. And no, you don't need any equipment...just your eyeballs. You can pick up any of these fuses at your local autozone.

To remove an aftermarket head unit to check the fuses, All I need is to use a screw driver? I saw these special "din" removal tools, I believe it was called, on crutchfield. Are these needed or was that just needed to take out the stock head unit.
Thanks for the help,

i bet whoever sold it to you just put that in to sell it, i bet its not even hooked up, becuase you would have to wire it up to the amp, and its not "plug and play" becuase mazda used a different type of cord, or wire. just like in my fc. i have an 86 and it had factory amps, the plug was so different i just ran all new wires and got a new headunit and amp. easiest thing to do.
