audio noob question
ok im wondering if my amp is killing my battery. this is the second dead optima red top. i dont use my car everyday, i use it once a week on saturday or sunday and not for very long. but my amp may be drawing the battery dead slowly. the way i got it hooked up now is straight to the battery postive and negative. and the remote switch coming from the cd player.
ok now the questions
does the remote switch kill power to the amp or does it still draw voltage and run?
should i wire a inline switch?
or wire a 12 volt switched source instead of 12volts from the battery?

do you happen to have a fuse from the battery to the amp or are you running it strait through. As for the remote switch I wouldn't think it drains power while the car is off but just to check you can get a 12v light tester
MAKE SURE THERE IS A FUSE ON THE POSITIVE no more then like 6" away from the batt.
the remote wire should turn the amp off when the radio is off check to see if the amp is staying on.
Also if you have a ground going from the batt. to the amp take it off and ground it to the car no more then 2-3 feet from the amp.

i have a volt meter and the battery is about 11 volts. their is no inline fuse but their is a fuse on the side of the amp. its a sony xplod if that makes any difference.i tried jumping the car and still didnt start so ive got something else going on as well.
the same thing happend to me with my fb sut I'd realy suggest putting a fuse 6" from the battery like josh had said they sale them at wal-mart for cheap and if that doesn't work you can by a farad capacitor that realy helped me cause I was always getting stranded every time I turned the 7 off
first off...fix how you have it wired...put an inline fuse no more than a foot from the battery....and reground the amp to the chassis as close to the amp as you can...2-3 feet. The remote wire is fine...the amp shouldn't be drawing current when the deck/car is off. You may have a bad connection somewhere that's slowly draning the battery.
