Audio installation kit

I have been looking around for a 3rd Gen Audio installation kit and can’t find one, anyone know where I can get it? I have been to a few Audio shops and none seem to carry any for the 3rd gen.

I mean the part that cover the deck and holds it in place so it can’t be stolen. Right now I have a new deck in their but it comes right out so I need the part that holds it in place. I thought it was called a installation kit but I could be wrong.

It would be the General kit I would be looking for. I went to Circuit City and they didn’t have one in their books for a 3rd Gen RX-7?

Im pretty sure that any single Din head unit will fit into the stock location, all you should need is a wireing harness.

That was the first place I tried, and what I got was one for the 2nd Gen, I didn’t fit, and the guy said it would work for the 3rd Gen.

Well the one I got was made for the 2nd Gen. It didn’t come with all that stuff, at least that’s what I remember. You don’t happen to have a picture of what it looks like installed in the 3rd Gen do you?

Yeah im pretty sure it will slide right in, give it a try. Take the stocker out and slide the cage in for the new one and see how it lines up, and if it fits...bend the tabs down and wire up the new harness. Connect it, and your set.

I went down to Fry’s Electronics the other day and Get the 99-7501 kit and then I walk to the guys who do all the car installation stuff. One of them tells me I should use a Scosche installation kit because they work better then Metra’s kits. Never heard of them so I check them out. You can get them at Good Guys. Turns out all I got was the Pocket. What a waist of a day. So for now I give up, because the guy at good guys tells me that everything I need comes with the Deck. I don’t know if he is right or wrong. So I will wait.

Here’s a small list of all the crap I hear about trying to get a installation kit for a 93+ RX-7

1. Go to any Audio dealer
2. Go to Mazda
3. All the stuff you need comes with the Deck
4. They never maid one for a 93+ RX-7
5. A 93+ RX-7 doesn’t need one
6. You have to get a custom one.

If anyone is interested in Metra or Scosche web site here they are.

The FD uses a standard double din mount. That means it comes with either a radio and a pocket, or the bose tape deck and seperate CD player. Either way if you want to change out the stereo you don't need a mounting kit. If you have a Bose stereo you will need either a pocket or a din plate to cover the whole left by the factory tape player, when you upgrade your stereo. There are pictures of R1 interiors that have a Pocket with a door underneath. You can purchase this from Mazda for way too much money, or find a used one. You can also find ANY pocket that fits a din mount. The 1998-2002 Accord Pocket fits and it has a door. I have also heard that the old Ford Taurus pocket fits, and has a cupholder. Try one of these solutions or make one of your own.

eric

Also when you have your dash all back together post some pictures so that others can see what you've done.

Any update on this? The stereo should be secured by either the rear (imposible in 3rd gen) or on the sides. My old MR2 used screws on the sides alot like a CD player in a computer.
