For the carpet i would just go out and buy some boat carpet and redo the car. One of my friends dyed the carpet and after awhile it start to look like **** .

Dyeing the carpet is really tricky... You cannot just use regular fabric dye (I tried). You have to use specific chemicals (at a specific temperature) to prep the carpet for a special dye at a specific temperature. It's POSSIBLE, but it'd be a big hassle and who knows how it'd turn out. Personally I'd try (if possible) to find an upholstry shop that has the capablitity to dye carpet and have it done professionally. I don't know (firsthand) if such a place really exists, but I bet it does. Ask your mom, aunt or any other older lady friend if they know of a place.

You can see a couple shots of my N/A's interior here: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=357382

They're not very good pics of specific things painted, but they're good at seeing the overall effect. I wish I had a 'before' picture, but I think this is the best "bang for your buck" interior mod (looks wise). Everything that is black in those pics except for the center surround etc. (stock black) was painted black using vinyl/carpet paint and trim paint. Including the seats, door cards and strut tower carpeting.

I don't know how far you are from Little Rock, but I should be parting out my S5 GTU which is black on black if interested. I don't know what all I am getting rid of, I just picked up a Black on Black TII and I will be taking the best out of the GTU and putting it in TII, but I know both cars the carpet is decent.

for the headliner... youll get best results if you take the old one out of the car, remove all the fabric and backing and reskin it with new material. you can get the headliner material at just about any fabric store for about $10 a yard. ive also painted all the interior plastic panels in my car and it turns out great.

Im going to do this really soon. there are some material lists and small write ups on the duplicolor site. I was going to do it with the dash intact, but if your gonna dye or change the carpet, you have to remove the dash to remove the carpet. Also duplicolor has some horrible fumes and im not sure i would like to be spraying it in a 10 square foot space. You would be better off buying carpet, but if your insisting on dyeing it check out sunshinejoy.com. they sell spray cans of fabric paint that permanently dyes the fabric and resists water and fading. i have 10 cans here but i ended up buying the carpet. I might try them on my seats though. If you want to buy a 4 step kit search for wicked weapon. they sell interior paint kits, but im sure its just as good as duplicolor if not the same thing. I would just go with duplicolor cause i have used many of their products and i trust them.

painted carpet has a terrible texture. Rough, stuck together etc. There is no way to have paint do anything other. The only way your going to get good color is if you spray ALOT on there (so it gets deep) but if you do this it will change the texture dramatically. I also cannot imagine there being a carpet paint that is resistant to wear. For example, under your feet. Usually if you rub painted carpet or certain "fuzzy" upholstry, it will leave permanent marks. You don't necessarily have to remove your dash to remove the carpet... I'd suggest taking a box knife and reaching as far up under the dast and cutting it up there (way out of sight). Then just install the new carpet with glue of some sort.

I'd agree there, plus the carpet collects all the dirt and water that enters your car. You could always get some of that black neoprene some cars have under their carpet. My buddy had a former police interceptor that had that for carpet and it looked decent enough, and you could just littlerly spray it out with a hose (wouldnt' suggest it unless you hate the car).

How hard do you guys think it would be to seperate the carpet from the padding and just form new carpet over it? That foamy-plastic stuff under the carpet holds it's shape, so it seems like the hardest part would be to get the carpet removed, and find some good black replacement stuff.

As far as seats go (I know you already have black seats now), you can always get some decent looking seat covers to go over them. I would rather not have spray paint from my seats rub off onto my clothes at a critical moment.

Don't even try to paint or dye the carpet...its going to look like **** unless you spend alot of money on it. And if you are going to spend alot of money on it, just get a whole new interior carpet set from ACC (the only aftermarket carpet that really fits the 7).
