Question Anyone ever use this to dye the interior to black??

Here is the link: http://www.seriousauto.com/g2/plastic_dye/index.htm

I want to get rid of the tan, but really want to use something that will work. What do you think of this product??

You will probably get better results with the SEM. Many of us have done, and or are in the process of changing from tan to black. Your BEST BET is to get whatever you can in OEM black plastic. No matter WHAT you use, the plastic will always be tan if started as tan... I've tried SEVERAL different so-called DYES, that are no more than just paint. Many of the dyes will successfully do your doorpanels and headliner... But the plastic is another story. Prep is a KEY factor. I'm sure you can be successfull dying them, but I would do as little as possible. Personally, I am covering the large rear plastics in leather. To include the bins. I am removing the covers, and making panels to put in place of them. Also covered in leather. Best of luck! I'll slap up a few pics of SOME of the work I did.

Heres a shot of SOME of the interior. The headliner and doorpanels were done with Plasti-cote vinyl dye.

Does the dye you used on the headliner rub off? My head rubs the roof when I drive and I wouldn't want to have to keep re-dying it all the time. The leather idea is cool!! I wonder if black vinyl would be an option to cover the doors and rear bin parts? Kind of like covering a sub box or something. It might not be that expensive and would look pretty cool.

Have you had any trouble with the door panels rubbing or scratching and the tan showing through? I want to do it, but once I start there is no going back. Thanks for the info.

What is SEM?

The door panels and headliner are bulletproof! I hear that if you cover the doors with leather, they are hard to close. I can't back that up though.. You could probably get vinyl pretty cheap to use, but I don't think it's as easy to form as a nice soft leather. Lemme find the link to SEM products...

search for sem

There are some prepping sprays you will find there too... On the right side of the screen, when you find the paint there will be a "other products you may be interested in" section. Good luck!

Remove visors. The covers pop off to reveal philips screws.

Remove light assembly. There's a 8mm (I think) nut under there.

Remove rear plastics. At least the top halfs..

Pull down the rubber door trim.

On all 4 corners of the headliner, there are plastic pop clips (don't know what they are really called) Remove them. There's only one other thing holding on the headliner.. 4 metal clips at the rear of the roof.. one by one pop them DOWN by sliding your hand between the headliner and the roof and CAREFULLY pulling down on them.

Good luck!

Hey, got another question. The Jimlab bushings are dyed using RIT dye. They boil the dye and then drop the bushings in. I know that it would have to be a huge vat or something, but would that work for the plastic parts if you were able to find something big enough to do it in? I guess it may melt the plastic, but I really have no idea. Just a thought.

We've been searching forever to find where to get that stuff... No-one seems to know. I would imagine it would work... But most likely expensive... I'll look some more.

I think zerobanger used the same dye. It's all about the same... The plastic pieces are ALWAYS an issue.
