repainting montego blue to regular blue
too cheap to change to a color i really want
just want to get the car repainted so it'll
look cleaner and get rid of the chips on the hood
and more importantly
to get rid of all traces of green from the paint. i really can't stand that green that my car turns into on a sunny day. green belongs on money not on my car.
anybody tried repainting montego blue to just "blue"
curious how it'd turned out.
thanks

Turns out my engine and turbos cost more than a complete paint job color change at a custom shop. My paint job is on hold for a good 6 months or so now.

montego blue to blue, or montego blue to another color....you are still changing the body coloring. I'd say the major difference between going a custom color and going with just "blue" is the cost of the custom paint materials.

I hate the green it 'used' to get when I first got my FD. I just used some 3M hand glaze and Liquid Glass to seal it in and now my car has a nice depth to the paint and looks less green and more blue. If your paint isn't too bad, I say it's worth a try.

It doesn't help that some '97 Miatas came in MB also
I didn't anticipate how much it would bother me when I bought the damn car!

On a lighter note, I don't "hate" it, but Id prefer it to be bluer (more blue?) ALthough after spending a good couple of hours rubbing it out and polishing it it really is a unique color..

I was thinking about doing the same thing. Having a new exterior and knowing that somwhere there is a patch of mbm hidding under the carpet ect would drive me nuts. Therefore, when I get my car painted I'm either going to strip it down to the frame and start from scratch or use a color that blends with mbm to a reasoanble degee(and still shoot the engine bay door jams ect). I really like the volvo blue in the picture below. In my mind it looks like a pure strain of the blue in mbm. Another color you might want to consider is the dark blue/black that is available on the rx8.
Before I bought my car MBM was my favorite color. Unfortunantly for me I never saw one under direct sunlight at that time.

yup...when i bought my fd i only saw it in the shade, and i was like, damn that is one nice looking shade of blue. but that green is just weird looking.
i know this is kinda ghetto but i was hoping to just be able to paint the exterior without worrying about all the door jams, etc. i figure if i could paint the outside to just a blue that matched with the door jams ,etc. i would save on the money for the labor.

not sure yet, college friend who's into benz recommended panel craft in berkeley (right on ashby and san pablo). he said they're suppose to be good. need to see if my ghetto paint it blue idea is going to fly...i doubt it, they'll probably say it'll turn out nasty...so i'm back to whether 5k for a paint job is really worth it.
