Here's a pic on Max Cooper's website.

He doesn't seem to have any info on it though.

The FD most certainly was not. Sure you can do it, but the car will be more prone to NVH.

You'd have to add a lot of structural support. A couple years ago a forum member totalled his car and bought it back from the insurance company to part out. After he finished parting it out he made a targa out of the chassis. According to his post, as soon as he removed the roof the front and back of the frame sagged several inches.

Weld the doors shut and hop in like Luke Duke.
That way you can use the doors to stiffen the chassis, otherwise, like someone mentioned, you'll have to add alot of metal to make the body rigid enough again.

Doesn't the FD have a honeycomb structure in the roof? It'd be a shame to cut that out.
But then again, if someone is thinking of chopping up an FD like this, they're probably willing to throw out all body rigidity and geometry in the first place.

Well, not really. The car was totaled? What condition was the frame in? The car may have been damaged in such a way that as soon as the roof was cut, the car would twist the rest of the way, meaning the roof was holding the car intact.
What do you mean the front AND back. As in the front and rear end seperated from the roof centerline (along the width of the car)?
I think that it can be done with out any ill effects. Just tie the frame in a few more spots. Besides, if you're going to make it a vert, I doubt you'd be racing it anyway.
