aftermarket seats that fit well?

are there any aftermarket, preferably reclinable, seats that fit perfectly inside the car? that means it doesn't touch the door panel like most of them do? is the red recaro that's in the spirit r, a standard model and size recaro or is it a one-off?

I'm sure there are a few seats that fit fine. I've been looking into the Corbeau seats. They seem to be a little narrower than the Sparcos, and have the seat controls located lower (on some Sparcos, you need to remove those to close the doors).

Granted, they aren't a brand name like Momo, Recaro, or Sparco, but if they fit that's all I care about.

I have some tips from someone who installed a Corbeau racing seat in their FD. Basically they purchased some 1x1 steel bar, cut to to extend the brackets and then mounted the seats.

No matter what aftermarket seat you get, you are going to have to do some work to get them installed (unless you get the expensive Mazdaspeed ones or the FD Recaro seats).

Never heard of them. If you know of a website that has their dimensions, you can compare them to the Sparco seat sizes to see if they'll fit.

I had a set of Corbeau GT9CS seats (non reclining version) in my FD. I did custom brackets in thick bar aluminum using their sliders. You could install two in about half a day. I've been trying to get Corbeau to make brackets for the FD. I even lined up people to go over to their bracket factory in Long Beach (if I remember correctly) for fitment purposes. I talked to them last week and they still haven't gotten around to doing it. I've since sold the seats but I miss them already. Waaaaay more comfortable than the stock seats. Corbeau makes a quality product however, and they're very popular in Porsche circles.

Yes, I started an email correspondence with one of their representatives when I started looking into their seats. They were asking for the dimensions of the FD floor bolt pattern for possibly creating some useable rails. I was just too lazy to rip my seats out and measure for them. If anyone has the measuments, you can send them to:

sb@corbeau.com (Spencer Bond)

I'm still looking at getting some Corbeau seats. Unforuntately the group buy fell through and I'm getting ready to close on my house, so they'll have to wait a little.

Does anyone have experience with MOMO seats. I have some other MOMO gear in my car and I was really looking at thier NASCAR seat. (Not that I would ever tell anyone that the seat model name was "NASCAR"!)

I sent them to Spencer a while back. I actually bought my seats from him directly way back when. Maybe if a few people contacted him via e-mail, he'd put the FD bracket into motion. Spencer is in charge of the custom shop btw...excellent customer service. They sent me new seat belt eyelets (updated, non rectangular versions) free of charge express mail.

Interesting. Not sure why he was asking me for them if you had already given them to him.... Oh well.

If anyone has the dimentions of the FD Interior then here is a seat dimention chart... http://sportscar-parts.com/sparcoseatsize.htm

This is a MOMO universal bracket, it looks like it might work but you would probably have to make a set of holes in the Sparco seat.

http://sportscar-parts.com/spseatbr.htm
here are a bunch of their other brackets

Check out the BRIDE seat lineup..

at our website -Bulletproof Automotive Bride Seats

Im sure the reclinable ones will fit in an FD, but you will have to use specific seat bracket adapters. PM or Email me if you are interested in a set.

No offense to you or your company, but there is no way I would pay that amount of money for Bride seats. I'm not that obsessed with my car.

Hey, just purchased my first 7 and have had Corbeau seats in both of my previous cars. I have spoken with Corbeau and I am going to their fitment center, located in Utah to have them fabricate brackets for the 93 fd in the beginning of this next week.

They also said that they would do a group purchase on some of their seats after we verified that they fit in the car. I was quoted that if we could get several people in on this, we could get a smoking deal on both the brackets and seats. Just as a preliminary number, I was looking at the CR-1 seat, and was quoted 300 per seat and 60 for each bracket. The bracket price is their cost and it includes the slider. Again, this would be once we verify that the seats will fit in the car. Other seats would be priced differently.

If anyone is interested feel free to email me and I will keep you up to date. I have asked them to make the bracket as small as possible to save the precious headroom.

Great! Bout damn time! I've been trying to get Simon to do a bracket for the FD for three years now :-) Let us know how it goes. FYI, their GT9CS and probably the RS, fit just fine. A hair of rubbing on the door, but I did my own brackets and I more than likely could have eliminated that. Thanks for your efforts.

Blaine,

Terrific news about the existance of an FD specific seat and slider package.

You should make a separate post to the forum to make sure there is enough interest shown to Corbeau.

CAUTION... if there is discussion of a group buy on this forum then you may want to follow the protocol/rules.

Thanks for your efforts.

Thanks to RX7TT95(Michel) and SHAYDE(Blaine) for their information and sustained efforts.

I have emailed Spencer Bond from Corbeau and reiterated the interest for a proper slider/seat package in the FD community. He replied promptly with the promise for more news in 30 days.

David
