Acid rain damage

On May 20, 1993, I paid $24,700 for a spanking new R1.

The MSRP was $34,845.00

The reason that I made such killer deal is because of "acid rain damage".

The dealer told me that the car had "acid rain damage" and gave me a substantial discount for the car(about $3000). I had to sign a paint warranty waiver.

The waiver states that "the vehicle suffered damage from acid rain that occurred in the Port Jersey, New Jersy area on or about November 1992 and such damage either is visible and has not been repaired by the selling Mazda dealer or has been repaired and disclosed to the undersigned by the selling Mazda dealer. The sales price of the vehicle was negotiated based on such damage and on the understanding that the damage or any repair thereof will not be covered by the Mazda New Vehicle Limited Warranty."

I did not notice any paint blemishes and made the deal. Over the years, the paint did lose its shininess, I think mostly because it was left in the sun. The car was recently re-painted.

Anybody else buy an "acid rain damaged" RX7 in the Northeast in early 1993? I am curious whether I am the only one who got such a substantial discount for it.

I am confused you said you paid 24,700 and it was 34,845 MSRP now you said 3000 off for the damage thats around 31,845 for the car?they would of had to discount it 10,000 for that price. And I laugh when I here people say acid rain what accually hapens is the car sits outside it rains and then the car sits there and dries,it rains the car sits there and dries ect. ect. From the water droplets siting on the car and the sun comeing back out it magnifies the sun just like a a magnifing glass does, on thoes spots the sun is magnified and etches it self in the paint and that is what causes thoes little water spots that you cant get off any way not tring to be mean just letting you know wht it is cause I hear alot of people say acid rain killed there paint and it is just not taking care of it,if you dont have a garage or a weaterproof car cover when it rains drie that bad *** car off right away or your paint will be screwed and it will also do it on the glass too. just helping out

I haggled the price down to $ 27,700 and then they gave me a $3000 discount for the "acid rain" damage.

The term, acid rain damage, I had never heard of before that. It was first used by the dealership. And what I quoted is what is written in the waiver.

I can't believe they came down that much on the price especially with them knowing they were going to knock off 3000 for the paint.Thats awsome you bought that for that price brand new I paid close to that for my 94 R2 a couple years back. What color was it stock?

They told me they were going to knock $3000 off the price at the beginning. So I haggled the price down knowing what the dealer cost was. And then they knocked off $3000 from that price. The car wa brand new and had 3 miles on it.

The stock color was Brilliant Black.
