'99 spec wing question

I just got the '99 spec wing from Jason but it didnt come with any nuts/bolts or attachment stuff. Each side has four points of attachment. Two are just brackets with holes. One is a metal pin with thread at the top (i dont know how to describe it better than that), and one is a plastic fastener shaped like a spear head. Does anyone what to use to put this wing on? I have never had a spoiler on the car so I will have to drill holes but i have no idea what to use to attach the wing.

Have a body shop install it for you . Its not expensive and its nice to know its on good. It holds alot of aero weight at speed . You will love it, the extra grip a high speeds 120+ is ausome. The rear end was never light witrhout it, but now the entire car sucks down to the ground .

contact jason by phone (it's faster) and make sure that there wasn't stuff that was supposed to come with the wing and didn't... then based on that, then you can decide. i would still have a proffessional body shop do that for me, because i couldn't drill into my own car. find a good shop to get it done right.

If you ordered the kit it comes with all the hardware except for 4 bolts and 2 nuts which you can get anywhere.

Mazda part#'s are:
Bolt- 9YAA2-0601
Nut- 99940-0603

The two brackets with holes are for a push fastner
which you seem to have.

Oh yea, add some fender washers (optional) where the bolts and nuts go through your deck lid.

PM me if you want installation details.
I installed mine myself, it was very easy.

thanks for your responses guys. It turns out that my friend had some 10mm nuts and bolts that did the job just fine. He said they were from his 300z lol. Once I took off the plastic lining from the inside of the trunklid, I saw why they chose the different mounting points. I did email Jason telling him that it did not come with any mounting stuff and he didnt say that it was supposed to. Anyway, it was only 4 bolts and 2 nuts and some washers that I needed. The hardest part i guess was making sure to drill in exactly the right places. But unless you are squeamish about drilling into your car as someone said, its a job easily done on your own. I dont know about you guys but I dont let anyone but me and a good friend of mine touch my car if i dont have to. That includes valet parking. hell no.

hi guys,

Sorry for bringing up an old thread...but I just picked up my own 99 wing today and I had a few questions.

Mine didn't have the bolts either, but tomorrow I will check at my local Mazda dealers to see if they have any of the bolts and nuts in stock. But in case they dont have the PNs that Lunar7 provided, I may end up using some generic bolts and nuts from my local parts store.

So if I do that, what size bolt/thread should I be looking for? I dont want to wait a week for the bolts/nuts to come in if Mazda orders them. I ordered a set of wiper bolts and caps a week ago and they still haven't arrived.

thanks

The bolt diam/pitch/length is:
6x.8x20 mm

If you stop by Home Depot you can get these in stainless steel or aluminum. Forget the cheap zinc plated stuff.

As stated earlier you need:

4 Bolts
2 nuts
6 washers (optional)

I used nylon washers, so as not to scrape through the paint.

Also if you want, 2 of the washers can be larger diamater fedner washers.

Good luck.

Well I just got done installing the wing about an hour ago. I could have gotten it done in like an hour but one of the bolt/screws that was attached to the stock wing wouldnt come off. It kept turning and turning, so I ended up having to dremel it off.

Once that was done I cleaned off about 10 years worth of grime from the hatch (from where the wing contacted. I had bought about $10 worth of construction paper, graph paper, string, and tape to make a template and to aid with lining up the JDM wing. Come to find out I didn't need any of it.

Since it looked like 6 of the total 8 holes would be re-used for the new wing, all I had to do was drill holes for the two black screws which were attached to the wing. Once I had each side of the wing aligned with the outer holes I just used the black screws to ightly scratch a marking where I would have to drill through. I enlarged the hole with my dremel drill bit, and I had to check about 10 times to see if the holes were large enough and still in alignment.

When the holes were big for the black crews to fit through I drilled out the metal on the inner part of the hatch so I could tighten the nut onto the black screw. The holes were right on the spot because the white fasteners went right into the holes that were there already, and the 4 outer holes were lined up with the wing.

Once I had used my deep socket ratchet to tighten the nut on the black screw all I had to do was screw on the 4 outer bolts. I had to apply slight forward pressure on the left while I tightened the bolt and on the right I had to apply moderate rear pressure to get the bolt in. Once that was done all I had to do was tighten the outer bolts and clean up. I still have to touch up my trunk and fill up the 2 holes from the stock wing.

I would also like to add that I went to my local NAPA auto parts stor but I couldn't find the size bolt that Lunar7 recommended. So I said F-it, I asked the shop owner if I could bring in my wing so I could try all the blts and nuts to make sure I had the right one. I carried my wing into NAPA and found the right bolt and nut.

The bolt size I got was M5 x .8 x 20mm, ut I dont remember the nut size. If you carry your own wing into NAPA and try out the different sized nuts from the ack you should find it in no time. I got a few extra in case I dropped/lost them while doing the install.

Some of the tools I used were:
-metric ratchet set
-deep metric socket (to tighten the nut that goes on the black screw)
-dremel with drill bit and cutting disks

He-He

The correct size (from my 99 wing) is:

M6x1x20

I misread the Metric Screw Identifier.

I hope I read it right this time.

Congrats on the wing install.
The 99 wing is a very nice looking and functional addition to the FD.
