99 Spec Bumper - Help in making Plateless

Hello !
Just bought a 99 spec bumper and have decided to make it plateless
I have taken it to two local bodyshops and they have turned me down as they cannot do it !
I remember reading a post on how to do it, but unfortunately I have searched with no luck

Any advice on how to do it so that I can tell the bodyshops...

many thanks

Riccardo

I know the Sport Compact RX7 project had a shaved front bumper.

But your best bet is to sell that one and just buy one without a front plate.

Sell it and order the rotary extreem platless 99 spec front end.

To remove the plate holder and fill isnt easy you need a special urathane filler and they never look perfect. I would keep it on the bumper, or sell it for the Rotary extreem one.

learn to live with it, if bodyshops dont want to do it now they certainly wont want to do it with you telling them how to.

they dont want to do it because they know it will never be perfect and next year it will be even worse.

As I said befor my options are really limited as I live in Greece

Stock OEM 93 vs. Stock OEM 99 (with plate) = for me Stock OEM 93 !!!!! Rather leave it in the garage !

Nuvalori, or anyone else BTW, do you know
a) what the stock OEM is made out of (urethane / polyetharene etc.) and
b) where can I find the special filler

I thank you all once again !

there are adhesives to repair bumpers, there are fillers to repair bumpers.
Your local body shops will know what to buy, being as you are in Greece and most of us are in the US what we have here you may not have there, and vise-versa.

You will also need a piece of a bumper to use as a filler piece, the piece gets installed with the adhesive, when cured you sand it and use the filler to make it smooth, prime and paint.

Then keep the car out of the sun as much as possible to prolong the lines from the filler piece showing through.

Wow, its been years since I read the thread about the poly filler used on the stock 99 front end.

For what its worth you can call Mr.Spoiler ask for Dan , he did a few for Peter Farrell cars when the 99 front end first came out. I saw two of them and they looked pretty good.

FYI : Rx7 store sells the Rotary Extreme 99 replica front end

You could also send it to a bumper repair shop if there is any in Greece.
