99 Front Nose........
Just wondering if there has been any quality 99 spec noses produced W/OUT THE LISCENSE PLATE HOLDER yet. I know there a few fiberglass makes but want a more durable one like OEM quality. Thanks G....
No one makes a urethane copy. I bought the oem 99 front end and had the license plate holder cut out. The body shop then bonded in a piece from my old bumper to fill it. It took a ton of glue, filler, and sanding, but is looking pretty good. Car will done done soon.
The way they did it the bumper remains very flexible. I flexed it myself and there was no distortion or cracking. Its not like fiberglass. They didn't use bondo. It was some sort of flexible adhesive. But anyways, best solution is obviously not to hit anything.

Sounds expensive and in depth. Although a quality finished product. I guess Pettit's version will have to do....

Pettit's version needs a little fitting (I have one). The mold sagged a little and will leave about 1/8th inch gap where it meets the fender on the wheel well side. nothing big thou.

Fiberglass will always chip relatively easily. I wouldn't recomend it for a street car. The work on my bumper is only costing me a couple hundred extra and will be well worth it. Also, Pettit's looks a but different than the real 99. The ducts are shaped a bit differently and it just looks more boxy to me. I don't like it.

just to compare, here is Ethan's photoshop job (and a damn good one too!
) and Pettit's:
FG does chip easier than poly but it really depends on the paint quality and the work of the body shop. I've changed bumper 4 times and have used differnet body shops.
The last time i had a bumper painted and installed (KnightSports type IV) the paint was great and didn't chip.
Also if you are worried about hitting a bumper at 1-2 miles or at all you shouldn't be driving. If FG cracks you can repair it it's not that big of a deal. Rock chips are a part of life especially if you drive the car alot.
