93 Black FD, Clearcoated?

Were 93 Black's clear coated?

I had the car compound sanded and detailed and was suprised to find it not cleared.

Eitherway the car looks incredible, guy did an amazing job for the price. Looks better than new.

The crappy part is, its been raining non-stop so no pics. Its so black that it kind of blends in the garage and the camera has a hard time picking a solid focus spot. I need a bigger flash for the interior shots.

As far as I remember, Black White and Red were not clear coated, Yellow and MB were.

Anyway this is for 93's only, I have one 94 white 94 but I haven't tested to see if it has clear.

VR and BB Tourings DO have clear coat.

VR and BB R1's and base models don't have clear coat.

I'm pretty sure that R1s and Base models would be built on the same line, the only differences in the two cars are bolt-ons with the exception of the holes in the hatch for the spoiler, they could still be painted in the same line.

All the Montego Blue, Silver, CYM cars will have clear, clear is a matter of fact when the color is metallic.

Many repaints will have clear even if it is a R1 or Base. It is very easy to tell if your car has clear, wax a spot on the body, rub sorta hard. If there is a little color on the rag you applied the wax with then no clear. No color= clear coat. The mirrors on ALL the solid colors on all models don't have clear.

The paint is a different color for a VR R1 or Base vs a Touring.

Hmmm...interesting...so is there a different paint code for VR Touring than VR R1 or Base?

It's not necessarily a different paint code, just a 2-step paint process verses a 3-step (primer/paint verse primer/paint/clearcoat).

It is true, Tourings have a different paint code than Base/R1 on VR cars, I don't know about other colors.

So....if tourings have a different code...what is it?
I only know of NU for Vintage Red. Is this it or is this the base code?

What is the logic to not having a clear coat?
I have an original BB R1 that gets my rag black when I polish.
