Exclamation 88 convertible sub?

Any Ideas on a sub for my convertible? Local shop wants 1400 dollars cdn to put one in (be hind seats in cubby holes under carpet) with an amp. THere has got to be a cheaper way to get thump thump thump.

$1400? i'm guessing that price includes a sub and an amp on top of the installation. where did you take your car to?

they both want to put in a amp, sub 8" and make a fiberglass enclosed box for the sub (labor for the fiberglass is 500 alone)

speaker city, they do good quality work but i like to install my own stuff. i've got my sub in there right now for repairs.

fiberglass is just for show. a sealed enclosure made with MDF is what you need. how do the bins in the vert compare to those in the coupe?

building a box if pretty straight forward. i think a sheet of 3/4" mdf is about $26. i haven't bought any in a while. check at revy or home depot. make sure you have a buddy with a truck if you decide to pick one up.

here are a couple of sites you should bookmark as references.

hmmm.. thought it was too expensive

don't know about the bins since there isn't any in the convertible..
the area to put the sub in is under where the spare tire is in a cubby hole on each side under the carpet. just do not think it is worth the that much money.

I have started a vancouver area rx7 club

without a doubt, if you walk into a shop not knowing much about car audio they'll bend you over. what amp and what sub were they trying to sell you?

Prices were not bad for that.. $500 in labour to make a fiberglass box in the back I object to

fiberglass is a bitch to work with that's the reason they charge $500 for labour. you have to make a mold and pour the mix into it. some mixes require you to bake it. but the end results in a rigid lightweight design. (for some reason i was thinking plexiglass in my previous post.) a box in the back made from mdf is the equivelent of having people riding in the back. if weight is a concern then fiberglass is the way to go.
