85 GSL-SE stereo install

i tore out most of my stock stereo when it didn't work and am now finally piecing together a stereo after three months of driving to the sounds of rotors and wind. when i'm wiring up the new headunit (alpine CDA-9856) i was wondering how i would compensate for the equalizer hookup and the joystick hookup. would i just remove those and wire up things w/o these accessories or can they still be used? i'm ambivalent about keeping them but if i can ok, if not, that's cool too. also gonna be throwing in speakers and two subs in separate boxes behind the seats in the front of the storage area before the wheel humps and the amps are going in the storage bins.

You will not be able to use the stock speaker joystick or eq anymore. They will need to be removed/unplugged.

I put the amps in the bins, a sub in the tire well, 5.25" components up front and 7" subs in the rear locations.

Take a look:

I put a piece of carbon fiber underneath the hole where the joystick control once was, you should be able to see it in the first pic

Yeah those things are completly useless now. even though i kept my joystick because i enjoy playing with it.
I stuck my 10in sub in my passenger side bin, a amp in my drivers side bin and a amp behind my seat seat. right now i'm qorking on an amprack so i can fit both amps in one storage bin. and i just replaced all of my speakers with some volfenhags. I didn't feel like doing the component speaker thing just cause i'm just a poor college student but i do get the bang for my buck. but, i will udgrade to components eventually

your interior is sooo much cleaner than mine. but yeah i'll be either finding a base model piece of plastic for the window switches since mine is broken or i'll just cobble something together out of sheet metal or cf or fiberglass. my only concern was that when breaking that connection from the balancer and EQ would you need to reconnect the outputs of those devices to the signal output or would it not really matter just that they won't be able to hookup?

Your best bet is to just remove all of the original stereo gear. They do not work with other gear and its just dead weight floating around in the car.

The only way your aftermarket stereo will work is by rewiring all your speakers to your headunit. As stated above you need to pull that EQ and factory amps.
