The only real difference between the GSL-SE sterio and 12A type sterio

Is the joystick control as far as I can tell. But, you best bet to determine compatibility is to go to the iluvmyrx7.com web site and look at the pdf 1st gen factory manuals for the electical schematics.

Alternative, if you are available this weekend so I can get those parts I need, I'll bring my 85 factory manual with me. Let me know via PM.

hmmm.
I have an SE parked outside and I have a 12a gsl in the garage...
I can check if you haven't found out yet.
I know the SE and GSL had amplifiers. So there might be a difference.
Why not just go with an Aftermarket radio and simplifiy things a bit???

okay I checked the GSL-se radio and the non SE radio yesterday and they are the same plugs.
The joystick fader that the GSL-se has in the center console just in front of the arm rest is still wired up in the non SE but instead of a joystick there is just a wire connector that bypasses it.
As for the amplifiers that are in the SE, it doesn't make a difference. When the car is on so are the amplifiers. They are not turned on by the radio as aftermarket amps are that turn on and off with the radio.
So yes they should be interchangeable as mine show to be.
Hope this helps you out.
Good luck
