12" Custom Sub Box

Got bored today & decided to try & build a sub box for some Kicker L5's I had lying around. Tips? Suggestions? Let me know what you think, & take it easy on me it's my first time building a box.

Have you test fit the subs in the cutouts yet? I'm using Kicker L7's and it looks to me like the corners of the cutouts are too square. If the corners are too square it might allow air to escape the cabinet and you want everything air tight. I'd also recommend you put a divider between the 2 subs. That way if something happens to one sub it won't unload the other and damage it too. Any idea what the enclosure volume will be when it's done?

Yep test fitted em & they needed a little nudge to get em in, but I'll still use some automotive insulation around the opening before mounting the subs. I've already added a divider & will be plasti-coating the fiberglass inside & out. I also beveled the front of the box to get more recline from my seats. Will post pics later today.

Not much today just sealed & rubberized the box and put the top on. Will be test fitting for baffels to hold 6" seperates on each side.

way to find out your volume on a odd shaped box

take a cardboard box, measure its inside volume and mark it in increments on the inside.....IE 20 liters, 30 liters, 40 liters.... or f you prefer 1 cube ft, 1.5 cube etc.

once you have tripple checked your measurements and calculations fill the box you made with packing peanuts until its full do not forcely pack it just drop them in and shake it a little to settle them.

remove them and put them in the card board box you marked, shake it lightly once again to settle them..... you can now get a reasonable close estimate to your boxes volume.

kenn

Oh and great job for a first try, little bit of practise with a sander and you could either wrap it with leather, or mold it into the body and custom paint it.
