How many posts to unlock all sections of the forum?
We could put it there, but experience tells me that most people would never know it was listed there. We have a whole FAQ for the site, that everyone is told about when they register, and yet next to no one has ever seen it. Also, keep in mind that a forum like this is always a work in progress--there is no such thing as a perfect forum and things always change with time. We are not asking too much when we ask you guys to bear with these things.
Additionally, we always like legitimate suggestions on how to improve things. Please dont think that the first part of this post was complaining about your suggestion, it wasnt.

Heh, after smacking into all the 'you don't have enough posts to read' barriers, I had to find this thread...and the find out how many posts I had and how long I've had this account. :-)
Been a while...
Been a while...
- 3 posts to PM
- 5 posts to be able to reply in all of the New member sections and most of the regular boards
- 10 posts to be able to reply or place your own ad in any of the Classifieds boards
- 50 posts to play in the deviant background play-yard of the Lounge. We delete anything we see posted under that count
- 100 posts to go somewhere different.
See rules regarding requesting "Full Access" and the criteria we're looking for to grant it...I forgot where it's buried in the rules, so you're going to have to research the matter yourself. - 5 posts to be able to reply in all of the New member sections and most of the regular boards

Def helped me I'm just having a hard time determining what a post is...is it a thread or a post like this one? lol or both like i obviously know what a post is but like in the mods eyes...if that makes any sense??
The rules that are laid down are not so different to that of the transport drivers licence in Queensland Australia where you need driving experience of 3 years before you get an open licence. The more experience the more understanding = less mistakes.
so, i tried posting in the "your rides" thread and "introduce yourself" and have not been able to do much of anything....
my intention was to join so that i could find out more about rx7's mechanically before i decide whether or not to buy a 3rd gen

my question also....are new threads the way you post your own ideas and things or is there another way you do it. i felt like new threads were just for important things like "hey i need help with this" or "here's my project" or "this is for sale, i need that". i started a new thread for introduction, thought it was in the right place. a guy gave me a link to post it instead and i don't think my "hey this is me and what i'm doing" was important enought to start a thread. i'm kinda guessing it's the same as a simple post though. i'm new to this, i've read a bunch of the intro stuff. there's only a couple small questions like that, that i'm not sure about. learning tho. seems like a great site. glad to be a part of it. i want to post pics. do i start a thread for that? and where? the intro beginner forum? i'll figure this thing out soon. i'm just over thinking the simplicity of this thing i think. and the post count unlock is a great idea...so people like me don't go through and interfere with well rounded users. haha!
why do we need so many posts to got to the classifieds i just want to buy parts shouldnt that be anuff to support the site.. i dont have time to get on here an post so many times between each break. that takes away when you can go to another forum an go straight to it.
On another forum I frequent, you are unable to make a new thread in the Classified forums until you reach a certain post count. It's been a pretty effective system so far. I feel that this forum has gone a little overboard with this approach, but that's just my opinion.
Just curious why you guys decided to set these limits so specifically? It is incredibly off putting for anyone new to this site. I would consider just making one simple starting limit unless there is just a massive spam problem.
Thanks for maintaining though!

^best way to control spammers. all explanations bout how the site works, etc are in the sticky threads. problem is no one bothers to read them and then post complaints and questions why they can't to this or that. didn't used to be that way when i first joined the site but with the numerous ppl jumping on here to spam any and everything, something had to be done. unfortunately it's a problem for new members coming here from other sites as they're not used to such strict guidelines. but u all will get there just be patient and quit
This thread was really helpful, the more I kept trying to browse I kept hitting the post count barriers. Helps to know what I need to see what. So far this site is awesome, I look forward to getting some learning on about rotarys.
