USB -->Serial w/ xp...i almost got it?
This is on my Sony Vaio laptop. With XP.
I have had a little luck or at least progress with one USB-->Serial cable.

At Walmart for $23.
It lets you go to system and hardware manager and assign it a comm port. So, now when you open the haltech software it does not give you the comm 1 error. Now, when I try to go online with the Haltech it was loading super slow. Like, loading the haltech might take five minutes. However, it is closer than I have ever been. But then it just breaks the connection.
Any idea why it is so slow and breaks the connection? I tried running the same situation with Dosbox and it didnt even smell the haltech.

I couldn't get that to work with a friends E6K but that is how I access my E11v2. As far as not seeing it in DOS, that is due to the fact that DOS doesn't have USB support.

That is the the thing...I COULD get it to see it in dos. It reported the version/firmware numbers and started loading the Haltech then it stopped....

I used that connector allot (not for ECU stuff but cellphones) and it doesn't work with all things (computers or periphials) Do you have access to a laptop with a serial port? Sometimes that is what it takes to access certain serial periphials.

Turns out drivers for this particular one are very poor. Switched to a radio shack one and it works flawlessly.
