Here's an update on these I/O CAN Modules from Haltech. They are basically done, they are meant to be used with 1.09.x software which is in dealer testing version at the moment so it can be ready for full release as soon as possible.

Hopefully around the beginning of May we should be able to offer them.

The first update to ECU Manager, v1.09.x, will have CAN I/O control for the Sports and Sprints.

One of the nice things i can report about the new CAN modules is that they will give the Sprints closed loop idle control through the I/O Expander which is a nice addition, on top of all the other goodies you will be able to run off it.

Thought I had posted this here already, guess not.

We got a set of pre-release CAN expansion modules a couple days ago for evaluation. We received the I/O-12 and TC-2 modules as well as the CAN Hub module.

The I/O-12 is a 12 channel module, as the name suggests. It features 4 analog inputs, 4 digital inputs, and 4 digital pulsed outputs. The analog inputs would be generally be used with temp and pressure sensors, though other functions are possible. The digital inputs can be used for pulsed wheel speed sensors or as direct acting function controls. The digital outputs can control pulse-width functions such as idle control or boost control, or simple on-off functions such as cooling fans and fluid pumps. Other options would be available for these inputs and outputs, I've only given brief examples. As Claudio said, one of the nice surprises was closed loop idle control for the Sprint ECUs. At this time though, closed loop boost control is still not offered for the Sprint ECUs. The I/O-12 includes an 8ft long flying lead harness.

The TC-2 is a 2 channel thermocouple module. The TC-2 includes high quality, open element, K-type thermocouples. The open element is key for a fast response sensor. There will be a 4 channel version of this module as well.

The CAN Hub allows multiple CAN modules to interface with the ECU. The network will allow a single CAN device to interface directly with the ECU. So, you would be able to run the I/O or TC box by themselves without the need for additional devices. If you want to run multiple input modules you will need the CAN Hub. The CAN Hub would then connect directly to the ECU and up to six devices can be connected to the hub.

Pricing is not yet available.

We will be installing the I/O-12 on our project turbo Miata and using it to run the idle speed control and our water injection setup. The Miata uses the Sprint 500 ECU and we easily used up the two programmable outputs and need more. The I/O-12 is the answer we're looking for. We'll also be using the analog inputs to monitor intake temps and pressures, and input from our Phormula knock monitor as we continue to develop the package.

Actually, just got pricing confirmation this morning. And there are a few production boxes available in the US. Prices are MSRP. Expect Haltech's minimum advertised price (price all dealers are supposed to advertise at) to be roughly 10% less. If anyone has a specific interest in any of the boxes let me know. We've used the I/O 12 and TC2 boxes and they're a treat to work with.

I/O 12 ECU only MSRP is $429

I/O 12 ECU w/ connector MSRP is $478

I/O 12 ECU w/ 8ft harness MSRP is $574

Each of these includes one 24” CAN cable.

CAN cables from 3” to 144” ~$40+

TCA2 Kit (inc 2 thermocouples, 2 fittings and 1 CAN cables ) MSRP $480

TCA4 Kit (inc 4 thermocouples, 4 fittings and 1 CAN cables ) MSRP $770

Also have the new 15 amp ignitors in 4, 6, and 8 channels versions. No firm pricing yet. We'll also have Bosch dumb coils for use with these ignitors. This will be a HOT ignition setup.

The only patch looms available are for the Series 4, 5, and 6. Nothing else available.

The TC2 or 4 will work by itself. No need for the I/O box. Single cable connection to the ECU for power, ground, and CAN line. Probes are plug-in to the box. Really no wiring needed. Probes are open tip for fast response.

Well....

The long story is, I called Haltech US and the guy I talked to said it didn't exist. Then Eric, the manager calls back and asks how I heard about that part number. We've been set to receive a new pricelist for several days that has this part number on it but it hasn't been rolled out yet. All that said, it is available. It will be a Sport 1000 loom though, which is to say, it can be used with the 2000 but you will need to populate the additional inputs and outputs of the 2000 yourself. We can provide the additional pins. Pricing will be $400 for the loom itself.
