Just got a Gsl-Se with a TII block and a E6K.

So little backstory with the car. Basically the car was built in the 2000's, and the first two engines got starved for fuel because the line pinched around the pump area. Expensive mistake indeed. All in all this car took $27,000 from the one who built it. So this is motor #3 for the car and it has about 1000 miles on it. It's a Pineapple built TII block thats been street ported. The guy I got it from was a mutual friend of the guy who had the car built, so its "as the story goes" kind of hand off. As I said the car was started in the 2000's, and in the past 9 years sense the 3rd engine was put in only a 1000 mile have been spun out of it. My buddy I got it from has only had it for 3 years and was not able to get around to it, and kid number 4 just showed up... so my luck!

He said a lot of the money went to trip going down to Portland for the dino time. On race fuel they got it around 415hp, but seeing as this is the 3rd engine and it does not feel anywhere that crazy, and it only pushing 5-7lbs of boost my guess is this is still in a setup tune around 250hp maybe a little more? It rips don't get me wrong, but it's not that race tune powerful.

There's a lot on the table to get out of the build, but ECU wise what can I do? The E6K does have the engine running right now nicely, but it's still kind of basic in comparison to what I could have. I currently don't have anyway to plug into the ECU, but all my buddy could say was get a newer setup. It's the bottleneck. He said something about needing Windows 98 to interact with it too, and just shy of setting up a emulator... can you even get windows 98 anymore? Lol

Anyway super plumped to get all of these bits swapped over to my nicer 83, and well make turbo sounds! What would you guys suggest going forward? After all this thing kind of fell in my lap for $3500, so I am winging it. 😉

its totally up to you, the newer haltechs are much much much much nicer to tune and use. they cost money, and would require a new wiring harness, and retune

for the E6k, it can work, best option is to find an old laptop with a serial port and only load enough DOS to run only the haltech program. you don't even want windows. it might take a little looking but laptops like this are basically free.

Ok that shouldn't be to hard to find then. I think I will keep it for at least two summers, and just play around with it. If I can't get it good by then a I'll try a newer ECU.

I was able to get a few good pulls yesterday, but not all of them clean. Running 1-4 gear flawless power all the way, but rolling into boost in 3rd or 4th it started breaking up a little around 5000-6000 rpm. So frustrating, but it's workable.

I am going to get new injectors, and spark plugs next to see if maybe its breaking up because of them. I mean they have been sitting for about 10 years. But a laptop would definitely help a lot! That and putting a wideband on it so I can see what its doing. Lucky for me the down pipe has two O2 ports.

Also I was told the stock crank angle sensor was really bad with interference from just about everything. Could this be a problem, is there a way to insulate the stock CAS to not get interference, or is it just hear say and a old wife's tail?

Sorry many questions from someone who has only dealt with carbs.

the old Haltechs have a hard time with the CAS sensors in these cars, you can try running shielded CAS wires and grounding both ends, if its not already.
