What keeps you going?
So since i have got my rx7 tII i have driven it a total of three times once to the shop, once to show what it was like to my mechanic, and once to get gas after that i have been tearing this thing down, rebuilding and restoring..
Finally the motor is done and the wiring is about to be complete in the next day or so then the time to drop it in and get everything all put together right..
Anyway why im writing this is, What keeps you guys going when your car is down and you cant rush it?..
I feel myself wondering about other cars like im cheating on the rx7 in my mind.. ugh
I see some guys have been working on their car for like a year or more i have only been going at it a few months.
Maybe its because i have only driven it a few times and never got a chance to ever enjoy it yet.
I like when im actually working on it though it gets me all pumped but down time is a B!@#h

lol I use to think exactly like this a while back... Just remind yourself that while its down its getting better, and having patients is just something you'll have to accept if you want it done right...
Having said that, I've had my project RX7 for just over a year, and ran out of funds temporarily, and with my current plans it won't be done for another 4+ years. Guess you just got to have it in you and keep your mind set to what it will be when its done.
PS, out of all the other cars I've driven/owned nothing compares to a 7 imo, even cars that are better on paper, just don't have the soul the 7 has...

i know how you feel, I have only really driven my FB 2 times, once when I bought it and another time around the block. But I'm building mine for the track so i have been keeping myself going by buying up parts for it, got an S5 NA block, S4 TII Trans, and GSL-SE suspension. next step is to rebuild them all and then get to work on the chassis.

The joy of driving my car keeps me going. It's such a reward. Sure you hate it when there are problems, but that is the nature of the beast. Speaking of beast there is a great movie called "Love the Beast." If you haven't seen it I recommend it highly as it is a truly inspirational movie about car love and what it takes to keep going.

an awesome tuning scene and car culture!!!
Being apart of something big and being known for it. Getting recognition for your car. My car is controversial on the net, but in person it is a totally different experience. Having a stand out example of a car that others fear to touch *rotary engine*.

Haha thanks everyone for the bit of motivation.
Yea I want to be a man and not a boy...
Also I do feel pretty good when I'm at the shop and people come in wondering who's car is this and how much of a fan they are but to scared to own one. Makes me feel good to get away from th 240 and civics and know I have a car that can move and handle and still be rare to see. I don't know about you guys but where I am I have honestly only driven past 2 rx7s and I have been here about 4 years now.
My plans with this car have gone from one direction to another and I think that is what keeps me going and ofcourse seeing everyones car from stage a to b on here.
Thanks again everyone

Took me 2 years to build my first TII...
It was hard tearing it down after wrecking at the track...
It was hard swapping everything over to the new car, took me 5 months with the limited time I had...
Wanted to give up half way through... until I fired the engine up for the first time in the new car. In both instances, firing up the engine was the biggest morale booster.
Now:
Driving it everyday to work and back is boring... If it wasn't for tracks, mountains and auto-x I would have sold this car long ago and gotten something else more comfortable.

I've owned my rust-free FC since April of '09 and I've never driven it . I got the blown engine to start a couple times in the driveway, I considered trying to drive it around the block, but it was smoking like a chimney and the clutch hydraulics were acting up, so that never happened. I pulled the engine out shortly after, then wheeled it into the garage where it sits today. I'm slowly gathering parts and doing odd jobs on the car (fixing stuff, cleaning stuff, etc). I have almost all the parts I need now. It'll be going this spring . just one more big order from Mazdatrix and a 5 lug swap from here and I'll have everything.
What keeps me going? Looking at my rusty beater FC and imagining how much cooler my clean one will be when it's done. Imagining being able to drive it around and be proud of it, rather than hoping no one sees me, like in my beater FC . I'll admit sometimes I lose motivation, not touching the car for weeks or months at a time, but then I see something on this forum or elsewhere that inspires me to go out in the garage and chip away at it some more.

The thing that kept me going was seeing other rx7s on the road or at events and not being able to be a part of it. I always told myself that one day other FC owner's would say as I once said "One day my FC will look as dope as yours"...its a true compliment. Just try to picture it finished and look at tons of pictures for motivation.
You know whats even worse/
try having a built and sexy car and not having the time to drive it hahaha I knwo there is no excuse but I wish I drove mine a lot more

What keeps me going is simply the fact I love not only RX-7s, but rotaries as well. Therefore there aren't any other cars I want right now as my enthusiast car. My restoration progress has been slow the past nine months, but I know I'm building an FC that will look practically brand new inside and out. That helps make not having driven it in over a year a little easier.

I dont have my license yet so i too cant have have "fun" with my car yet but when i do i have to drive the thing like a grandma thinking the cops will be right behind me. There are times when i have to redline the damn thing tho. what keeps me going is the sound and feel of the damn Wankel! 3 moving parts > pistons =] i guess one would take more pride into their car when one is patiently waiting for it to be fixed.

Too old for this
My car is one of the very few things I get real joy out of in the world. It's hard to describe why, but I could imagine it's similar to having a child, except the spilled fluid volumes are much higher. The only reason that my true love is an RX-7 is because she was the first car I got. I wasn't even aware of the uniqueness of it until later, but that probably helped cement the relationship. And after raising and repairing and improving her for the last 7 years, I could never give her up.

I don't know about you guys, but.................................. I think I had more fun fixing my car, then driving it, but then again, I haven't driven in the summer, and for now I'm DD an explorer.
And about cheating on your car, I do that sometimes. when it was my project and not my DD I never once looked for other cars. Now I browse CL once in a while.
project= girlfriend status
Daily driver = wife
car sold = dead I mean divorced wife.

until you screw up.
I have those frustrating days where I want to blow the car up
but then again, i think of the pain of walking and busing to work and school, keeps me going again.
