Idle with no idle control...
Im curious how the guys running Haltech's setup idle without any idle control (no BAC, no stepper motor, ect). Been doing reseach on it and havent found much about running no control at all. What sort of throttle plate openings, ign and fuel settings?
My setup is S5, 13bt, PS2000, LS2 coils, stock everything else.
Is this completly frowned apon and doesnt work?

you lose the compensation that holds one idle speed.. irrespective of aircon. power steer , and engine temperature
usually you set the idle a little faster to account for these at the throttle stop.. THEN calibrate TPS
nothing trickier than that

I always like to use the BAC. It doesn't hurt anything to use it and, at the least, it helps with cold idle up. The ones that need this the most are the nasty ported race engines.
Like Bumpstart said, there isn't much to it. You'll probably just raise the idle speed slightly, say 1000 rpm instead of 800. You can use timing as a form of idle control. For example, if you want to idle at 1000 rpm and base timing at that speed is 10* BTDC, program for 12* at 900 and 14* at 800. When the revs try to drop the added timing will help push the revs back up. Usually works best if the timing at the desired idle speed is a little retarded from optimum in the first place.
Use the BAC, you won't regret it.
