I was data logging on the highway. Just cruising. Car shuts down. Air and Coolant temp is flashing. It did not overheat. At all whatsoever. Last thing I did update the ecu with 1.10.4. I did that about 20mins ago and it was fine.

Im literally on the side of the road write now. im posting on my phone.

 

The ecu itself is getting hot. Somebody please give me some ideas.

 

I'm not expert as I'm just installing my Haltech. But if the ecu is getting hot I'd say let it cool down and see of that fixes you prob. Also check your coolant and air temp sensor connection to see if they somehow came loose. The ecu getting hot is odd. It may have a saftey feat on it to keep from overheating

 

If it's hot, it will shut down. Can't figure how the flashing temp values would cause the issue though. What is the actual value displayed for the temps? Not sure what you have the alarm values set at for those sensors, but you will most likely see alarm conditions if the circuit goes open or shorts to ground.

I'd check to make sure your harness didn't rub on something and short to ground or if it was possibly melted by exhaust heat.

Do you get an RPM signal when cranking?

 

It started and I made it home. I think water may have gotten on the harness. but I really dont think thats the problem.

The values were for coolant and air were 248 and 212. they flashed as soon as the ecu connected. I was driving for about 15mins when it happened in the middle of the highway it just shut down. I let everything cool down and it ran like normal.

It did NOT give me rpm signal when cranking.

I shrink wrapped the harness a couple of days ago. And drove it to and from work last night with no issues.

Im gonna check again in a couple of hours and see if Im getting any anomalies again. Hopefully it was water that had gotten on the harness when I opened the hood. But in all honesty I dont think thats what happpend.

 

Have you figured out what it was that cause it

My platinum 1000 did the same exact thing for no apparent reason. Car has run fine last summer and all winter. Would the upgrade to 1.10 software have anything to do with it?

 

Mine also shut down in 4th gear during a 1/4 mile run. Was datalogging and that showed that the ecu did not turn off but all the channels went zero. Checked things over, found nothing, 10 minutes later the motor started and ran fine with no issues.
Only happened once to me.

 

I understand the hotter weather and maybe ECU's overheating. But it just seems weird that this many people are having the same problem.

 

Happened again.... kind of..... I was driving the car for a few minutes after having fixed a huge vacuum leak that kept me from (taking my 7 to formula drift in ATL) anyway, I came back from Formula Drift Determined to have my 7 running in the morning.

Long story short laptop plugged in took it out after fixing the leak, ran great; pulled into my neighborhood and it starts running terrible.

Common denominator is the ECU plugged into the laptop. Im gonna try and make it happen again and see whats up. That Update seems to be my issue probably. Ill undo the update once I try a couple more things first.

 

be sure you all have the injector current settings correct for your setup to limit heat load on the ecu

IIRC early haltech stuff should be setup according to what injector setup is in the secondaries, maybe mr ludwig can confirm

 

Believe he's using a Sprint ECU. No injector impedance setting.

 

/\ then is he using the low ohm injectors without the resister block?
its a very obvious reason the ecu would run hot

 

Is this a know for sure thing? So what makes the ecu get hot and shut down?
