Will work for horsepower
If The Fuel Pump Resister Is Bad It Will Run For About 5 Sec. And Restart And 5 Sec And So On. If Your Still Using It. I Jumped Mine Out So It Runs 12 Volts All The Time.

no vacuum leaks and the car was running before. but i dont really hear the fuel pump prime before i start the car, but when i do start it, it smells really rich

Other than that, the fuel pressure regulator might be toast.

that happened to rez's car when i did his haltech last weekend.
he was losing power to his coils for whatever reason. try running a wire from the battery to the leading coil and see if it stays running. if it does, you know what the problem is and can start looking into fixing it.
