E6X Newbie questions

OK, where to start....
Road Speed, how do i hook this up? do i need to get an old school dual sender?(used in old chryslers with cruise, its a speedo cable with an electronic sensor mounted in it) or is there another way
Retaining use of factory gauges - should i leave my factory ecu hooked up and only run the wires for my wipers, coolant sensor(factory), oil pressure(factory) and voltage etc. and cut the rest off or tie them up under the dash and then hook the haltech to its own sensors. - will doing this retain functionality of all the instrument cluster gauges?
im sure i'll have more questions throughout the install, but these will cover he first hurdles i came across.

Thanks - Joe Phillips, Classic Auto Body Inc.

what year of vehicle?

the FC and FD temp and oil sensor (guages) are not in via the ecu therefore are not affected.

The FC has spedo cable
The FD has a section of wires (from tranny) that need to be seperated from the wiring harness and kept (spedo/reverse/5th etc).

For FC you'll need to split the wiring harness for the wiper connector as that is ran along with the ecu.

If you want the road speed value in the software and your car has ABS you can use the ABS sensor and feed that into the ECU's road speed sensor input, but that is a magnetic signal if im not mistaken, so you need an MSD-8509 magnetic signal stabilizer, or you can hook it up to the dash which has a pin in there you can use, i do not know how ever, what is the number you need to input in the road speed value, some guys say 2000, but im clueless at that. the road speed value needs to be the amount of pulses per kilometer traveled.

The tacho signal comes from the yellow wire on the trailing coil igniter.

ok, i dont have abs on my car so my only option is some pin in the dash?
more info on this pin would be greatly appreciated...
does that pin come off the back of the inst. cluster somewhere or off the tach? speedo?
What would happen if i didn't hook up the road speed wires?

And a new question - Pulse width modulator, where the **** does that go to?
i know that the four circuits around the PWM can be tuned in the optional (i think it was called optional) menu so does this mean the functions of those circuits are not required for normal operation?

Lastly does my FC (keep in mind that the coils are from an N/A) have dumb or intelligent igniters? (my bet is intelligent but i dont wanna fry my EMS or coils)

aww wicked, thanks for the link, thats some very useful info but....

what about the road speed issue? do i just leave it unhooked or should i get one ABS sensor for the front and use it for my signal (with the help of the MSD unit of course)?

you don't HAVE to have road speed for the haltech to work.

If you want it for datalogging you have to hook it up but i would concentrate on just getting the car running for now and the speed is not needed for that.
