well the ECU is not DOA, my mistake..

it just required that drop a desk top computer into my hatch with a serial port built in..(BTW try finding a MB with that ( serial port) on it any more ). SO next step is travelling to some other city to get a damn serial adaptor, since I've tried every brand in this city so far.

do they not have mail order companies in canada?

seriously though, since your going to spend the money for a good adapter, there is a bluethooth to serial adapter, that runs on 12V, comes with a pigtail to easily wire it into your car, and though intended for the Innovative motorsports product line, the sales person said they would garuntee it to work on a haltech. Its around 120 bucks.. Think about it no more wires.

well I just spoke with a haltech reseller here, he's using the belkin F5U409, (the same one I've tried with no luck). He's been using it for a few years now with no issue, .. so my problem as got to be something in the IBM set up profile for the devices that I'm not aware of..anyone use IBM R51 or similar..

Well, ive heard people tell me that sometimes, just sometimes, driver revisions for a certain product will work, and then a later one will have problems, maybe his drivers are older than the current version and they might work.

But, who knows, these days, XP has so many hidden agendas its difficult to tell.
Its like that no comm problem between XP and DOS, nobody's come up with a solution yet, other than using virtual PC or DOSBox.

I forgot this post existed until someone reminded me about it just today..

Problem turns out to be native Serial port setup in the IBM laptop, R51 in this case, IBM will not allow for any modification to the way the rx/tx are setup. we tried ! 8 different ones including the one recommended by everyone, ( customer that uses it for his DSM open source tuning tried it on the IBM and it was as good as DOA). Picked up a Fujistu Lifebook with a native serial port awhile back and it worked on that.

Anyway thought it would be good to update, no one may care but the odd chance that someone is having apoplexy trying to get it to work with their IBM..
