E6k No spark - Yes I searched

ok, this is almost more to confirm my fears than anything. But I'd still appreciate any helpful advice

So after a rough start with the Haltech installation the car is cranking strongly and I can log the sensor info on my laptop. I GET RPM DATA, just in case anybody is wondering. Along with pressure, temp, inj cycle etc...

I have power to the coils when the key is "on" AND during cranking.

I do not get a "reconnect haltech" message during cranking.

I have no spark at all.

so.... I've gone through my wiring and it all seems right, does this mean all my spark plugs are dead? dead (stock) coils?

my ignition settings are from a map BDC sent to me and they check out with everything else I've seen on this forum as well. What am I missing?

lets narrow it down.

test, test, and test yet again. dont look at the item in the below list and think "it was fine before".
just test the damn thing. it will rule out instantly and produce an exact answer.

are the spark plugs good? yes/no
are the wires good? yes/no
are the coils good? yes/no
are the coils getting switched ignition power? yes/no
when cranking the car, do the coils get power? yes/no

maybe this will help you out some.

alright, as to some of the items in SirCygnus' list, I have taken the plugs out and they look just fine. I even tried some spares I had lying around, and those didn't work either. However, how can you really tell if a spark plug is good? even if it looks clean and fine can you trust it?

The way I tested the spark was to have both plugs from the front rotor sitting on the rubber shock cover and then cranking the car and watching for spark, I also tried other spark plugs in the same way, but none of them are 100% known to be good.

wires are untested, but visually they look brand new.

I looked up testing the coils in the FSM and it says I need a coil tester. Does anybody know a way to test if the coils are good without such a device? The coils are stock FC, and the ignition settings are for stock FC coils as well.

I haven't tested the trailing coil yet, but the leading is getting 12v to the big wire (b/y? sorry I can't remember the colors off the top of my head and my car isn't very accessible right now) and less than 1v to the small wire (g/y?). this voltage goes up to about 1.5v while cranking. Unfortunately I did not think to confirm that the 12v source stays on while cranking, so I'll have to do that later.

Osirus, how are you determining you have no spark at all? Did you remove one or multiple coil wire boots off of a coil to determine it?

What generation coils are you running?

all I did was unscrew the spark plug from the motor and put it on the driver's side shock tower and crank the car. I took both plugs from the front rotor (one leading and one trailing). So when I try to start the car, no spark. Thats all.

I also tried using a cheapo timing light to see if I was getting spark and it never lit up. (this was while the spark plugs were in the engine)

Stock coils, so series 4/5.

think you need to look further back at signal from haltech (lime green wire) , and your ignitor (power supply, wiring and viability)...

I just tried a different Leading Coil and I still get no spark...

How can the coil get voltage but not produce a spark?

Coil could be dead. I had a dead coil and it took a while to diagnose. With my key to on, I took my CAS out but left it plugged in, and I spun it by hand as fast as I could. You should hear the coils ticking (disable the injectors so you don't accidentally hear those). When mine was dead, I could not hear it ticking. I had to further verify the wiring was good by using a simple 12v bulb instead of the coil. I spun the CAS and saw the bulb lighting. Then and there I knew the coil as dead.

Not sure what your asking, our coils are constant charge, so they recieve +12 all the time and the trigger is negative.....

what ignitor are you running? have you checked the ignitor?

like i said b4, check signal from the haltech (lime green)

then check it coming out of the ignitor... dead coils are far from commonplace especially 2 in your case...
