every time that i try to go online my lap top tells me "unable to open comm port. make sure that no other programs are using this device" has anyone ever had this happen to them? i am using a usb to comm port cable and installed the software for it also. any help is appreciated.

 

First and foremost, what brand of usb to serial adapter is it? there are some that dont work. I always recommend the Keyspan USB to Serial adapter, its a very reliable unit and doesnt cost much.

Other than that, check your settings to see if the port set in the comm port settings matches the settings on the software.

 

sometimes I had to start in off line mode... turn the car(ECU) on and then switch to on line mode
