Differences between E6K and E6K-8

I have a E6K on my 91, it works like a charm; however when I plug in a E6K-8 the car won't won't start. Is there any major difference between this two? Also they have different firmware on it, as the E6K is running:
Ver 6.4
System Series 8
Firmware 14

The E6K-8 is running on
Ver 6.4
System Series 8
Firmware 2

Any known issues with the firmware 2?

Probably not, as it is running on firmware number 2.

That's probably it.
I had a regular E6K running Firmware 2, and it ran really funny.
Once we flashed it up to 14 (I think), it ran perfect - go figure.

E6K-8 is the regular model number for the very loved and appreciated K unit, the K-8 was a 8/16 injector version that haltech every now and again put out for their systems, like the F9 and F9-8, it just meant it could do more injectors, if memory servers, there have also been E6S and E6S-8, but, with the more newer firmware, the K-8 prolly didnt have the software selected 4/8A injector drivers like the newer firmware K's did.

In all actuallity its still a good ol' E6K.

Have you troubleshot the ECU? is it reading RPMs? Is the configuration in the software any different from the regular K? sometimes older firmware with newer software wont display several things that arent available in the ECU, or maybe there's just something wrong with it all together.

After you do this, i would email haltech on that one, if that K can be firmware updated.

On the data page, it reads everything except:
Engine Speed & Inj Time; everything else looks normal; I am not sure if there is anything else I can do in order to troubleshoot it.

I did contacted haltech, but haven't heard from them, are they that slow?

No, usually they are quick in answering, its just that their email server was down for a long time, but everything has been normal for a while.

As for your ECU, if you arent getting any RPMs, using your other K map, hense no inj. time, the trigger circuit is probably dead, this happens A LOT! in my neck of the woods, because people try to connect the K as if it was an F9 and that is a BIG NO NO!

You will definately have to send it in for repairs to haltech on that one.

I was told by my tuner in n.y. that haltech does not have a facility in the usa.....He also told me that the turn around time should be 2 weeks after haltech in aus repairs the ecu. as of the 11th (sat) my 7 will be @ his shop for 1 full year!!!!

Haltech USA is located in California, they've been there for over a year now. If you ship the unit to them they will diagnose the ECU and determine exactly what is wrong with it, and then ship it to OZ for fixing. Now, be patient, haltech USA will soon be able to repair ECUs soon. Turn around time is around 2 weeks, since they are a little backed up right now due in part to several supply reasons. But, they will make your ECU like now again. For a trigger sensor and diagnosis the total costs involved are around 150-200 dollars for shipping, repair, parts and return back to you, depending on the extent of the damage the ECU has.

That was the price range my tuner told me. I had problems with my haltechs toggle switch. my e6k burnt up my 2 trailing msd 6a boxes after I broke in my motor. I should have never bought a used unit off of ebay. you live and learn

You should not be running the toggle setup if you're using two MSD's on the trailing. It should be direct fire.
I just got back an e6-x ecu from the Cal. office. It took two mins to diagnois and repair.
