Haltech cold start problem

cold start problem

ok so my car idles and drives great at full operating temp. but when i try to start my car cold. it fires up and then immediately dies. i can give it partial throttle, itll rev to say 3k rpm and i can hold it there for a few secs and then itll die. every once and a while i can hold the throttle down and it doesnt randomly die. i can start it a few times and it will eventually start and hold idle. afrs are a little rich at about 11.5 on cold start up. i used to run a streetported s5 tii with a e6k with stock coils and i got everything to run great. i switched to a stock port 13bre with an E11 and ls1 coils and im having a hell of a time with the cold start and idle. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Have you checked you coolant enrichment maps? Running a BAC?

coolant enrichment is fine. and there is no bac as of right now. once everything is tuned well enough and idling fine i will turn the bac on.

One of the main jobs of the BAC is cold start. If you are tuning cold start and plan on using the BAC you should use it. It bypasses air at cranking as well as cold running to bring the RPM up so that it will idle when cold. Most if not all cars have a cold start RPM offset using the idle air control.

well my problem is, even if i hold the throttle down the motor will rev up and hold rpm for a while and then just die while i hold the rpm at 2.5k or 3k. im gonna give the bac a try.

What are you AFR's at 2500 to 3000 rpm? You may be soaking your spark out.

its pretty rich at around 11.0:1 maybe even as rich as 10.5:1

so ive tried pulling fuel from the coolant map, tried adding timing and retarding the timing some, played with the post start maps. and i still cant get it to idle when cold. once it does hold idle, it idles at 12..0-12.5 just fine. and when the car is fully warm, the car idles perfect. i got this ecu from Tweakit on the forum and his 13bre was supposedly tuned by brian at BDC. so i used the map loaded in ecu also and it still wont idle right when cold. any one have any suggestions on timing settings for a stock 13bre on a haltech e11v2?

Have you added the BAC? I would think you would want to be around 11:1 during cold idle. When I said remove fuel I meant from the area when you would rev it and it would cut out in the fuel map. I would also recheck all of your sensors make sure your TPS is correctly set, make sure your coolant and air temp sensors are reading correctly.

the areas that i rev to between 2.5k and 3.5k when starting is around 12.5:1. bac is still not added. bac is not hooked up yet. i just dont want to use the bac as a bandaid. ill have to go back and double check my sensors. i know the tps is set correctly. but ill have to double check to see if the coolant and air temp sensors are good.

Using the BAC is not a band aid but one of its intended purposes, to raise the rpm during cold start. 12.5 is probably too lean at that point especially if you are talking cold. What is the temperature you are starting in. You could also post your map and we could take a look.
