cold cranking tuning

How do I adjust the fuel and ignition in the E6X so that it will start faster when cold?? I had to crank it for about 30 seconds before it fired up this morning. Not so much as how do I adjust it but what do it to to make it start faster? I have a wideband, what should that be reading while cranking? How much do I change the timing? That kind of stuff.

WB won't help you on the starting.

Adjust the fuel priming map and you might have to adjust the post start enrichment.

Since its taking forever do I just need to add more fuel? Ignition doesn't matter?

I am using the TECH3R and have the same problem. I can't seem to adjust the starting parameters right. I spent $3000 and this ****, I think it should start first crank right? good luck. Also, I 'm trying to find out more on where to set timing under boost. I don't think it matters too much on start up, but I'm no tuning expert.

There are seveal factors to consider when doing cold starting. First, you should've already taken care of the regular operating temp. driving, as well as the throttle pump settings so that the engine runs properly with good AFRs when its warm. Then, you should address the cold starting compensation through both the air temp and coolant temp maps to make the engine acelerate and rev fime with proper AFRs so that the engine runs fine when cold. Then, after you've done all this, you can start to address the cold cranking issues. Basically you need to consider the following, are you using a BAC? if you are you should've already calibrated it for cold and warm running conditions. If so, like Sess said you need to tweak the post start enrichments, primer map if needed, and maybe ignition crank maps. perhaps if you actually advace it a little you will be able to get a quicker startup from your engine. Also, there might be too much air or too much fuel when initially starting it, so you should be aware of this.

Finally good sparkplugs should be in there, if your car has been running pig rich for a few days/weeks the plugs might be fowlled and need replacing.

the shop manuals say that cranking timing is 5btdc. cranking speed is important, so when its really cold i run it closer to tdc, and when its warm it seems to like a little more advance, but your cranking timing should start at the book value of 5btdc....

fuel isnt hard, but it does take a loooooong time to get right, cause the car needs to be cold.

basically primer starts the car, and the coolant map keeps it running.
