clutch switch triggered rpm limiter

How do i set an rpm limiter when i press the clutch? for pedal to the floor shifting.

I have a Haltech E6X

When you select Aux RPM Limit from the Input/Ouput screen for the Spare A/D Input you will need to supply the input with 5V+ when you want the aux rev limit not activated. You need to setup the circuit to open, allowing the input to float, when you want to activate the rev limit. What I have done is use a normally closed relay. You can find them at Radio Shack. I ran a 12V+ power wire through the clutch switch to the relay. When the clutch is pushed in the 12V+ passes through the clutch switch and energizes the relay which causes the circuit to open. When the circuit opens the Spare A/D input floats and the rev limit is enabled. Feed the orange 5V+ wire on the Spare A/D connector into the relay so that it feeds the red/black wire of the Spare A/D connector when the relay is closed and the circuit is broken when the relay is energized. If that's clear as mud I'll try to work up a drawing later today.

Hey Ludwig, wouldnt it be easier to just use a button (with no retention) on the steering wheel, feeding it with the 5V orange wire to the Spare a/d and when you want it activated you just press it? I mean, i would assume you only want the Aux. RPM Limit to come on only when launching, right? Cause if you use it on the clutch switch it will always activate when the clutch is in, and i think that would slow the car down.

Just a thought.

Steering wheel switch is an option. This guy wanted it to run through the clutch though. If you were doing a separate steering wheel switch you could use a normally closed switch that would eliminate the need for the relay.

Problem with the steering wheel switch is that it's not automatically engaged and disengaged. The driver I've been working with lately has a hard enough time using a line lock for a burnout. Adding another switch for him to operate wouldn't be a good idea. Using the clutch switch gives you great repeatability. The steering wheel switch can be released early or held too long.

Doesn't slow the car down a bit. If you spend enough time trying to find a gear (which you shouldn't) the aux rev limit will work something like a flat shift setup anyway. We're launching our car at 8k right now and shifting at 8200 so there's not much difference there anyway. Primary rev limit is 9200.

Only place I've seen it come into play when it shouldn't is on a dual purpose car where you're away from the strip and wanting to rev match for downshifts. If that's your cup of tea you can easily wire a toggle switch into the circuit to arm/dis-arm the relay for when you are away from the track.
