Unhappy Can't get online (haltech program?)

I just finished installing the haltech and i think i installed the program correctly. I have a Compaq presario 1200 with windows me...Will the e6k program work with this or do i need to get a older labtop from ebay? When i try to go online i get this message INFORMATION LOADING FROM HALTECH...then its just freezes, the only command that works is CTRL Esc.
Anyone else have this problem?

Try posting this on the Haltech Support list. IIRC there are known problems with running the Haltech software in a shell with a Compaq.

LOL, I never got the Haltech software to work on my Dell laptop with Win98SE, either. I hope that Haltech joins the modern world one of these days, but I do sympathize with them because MS changes their OS so often.

Off to the Haltech subforum...

Sorry guys, for posting in the wrong section.

Ah man that sucks, if the haltech software doesnt work with the newer compaq and dell computers. Does anyone have suggestions on which brand/make/year of labtop to get?
Thanks for the info...

I use a Compaq 5300 laptop. have you tried running the software in the DOS mode if this is available in win98? I have also used my friends older Dell not sure of model, but both are using win95 as operating system.

Tim, thanks for the info. I'm not that great at computers.
i think i have to buy an older computer, cause i tried it in DOS mode but i'm not sure if i installed it correctly. Do i have to exit windows to install the haltech program? I tried using DOS only but i could only install the program into drive B:\>. But I'm pretty sure i saved it on to my hard drive cause i have a Haltech icon on my windows screen. I click on the icon and it goes strait to the haltech program.

Today i just got a windows 95 CD but i can't figure out how to install it into my computer.

Are you sure you have the right version software for your ECU, did you buy it new with the disc ?
The haltech software should work on any computer. But you can sometimes get this froblem if you have the wong version software, it either says re-connect Haltech, locks up or doesnt even start to fill up the progress bar when loading.
Check your version, you may need an earlier one.
Or maybe you have another problem, sus' this out first though.

Rice,

You just need to copy the haltech floppy to a folder on your hard drive then while in DOS mode run the program. if you double click the icon it tries to run the DOS program in windows. It works ok that way on both of my win95 laptops, but others have complained that on the newer O/S it does not work right. you have got to go back to the old DOS days and launch the program in DOS mode. if this still does not work try and check with haltech or the email list for possible patches. good luck

Yes i'm pretty sure i got the right program, E6k-v6.34.
The problem i have is that the program locks up and doesn't even start to fill up the progress bar. I'm pretty sure its my O/S. I tried installing windows 95 but my computer doesn't support it and my computer says that it could cause damage to my system. I tried emailing compaq and they told me the same thing. So now i'm hunting for a good laptop for a good price, i hope it solves my problem.

Thanks guys

I have used the newer version of the Haltech software on my older E6K and I have done the reverse. using the old version on the new unit and both worked fine. just the old E6K did not have the firmware to support some of the added features. To bad non of the computer guys could solve your O/S problem. I have been lucky and all the software has worked fine for me.

mine works fine in offline mode
when i hooked up a friend's IBM thinkpad it all worked fine....put in new maps for the 1600cc injectors, etc...it wasnt working at first, but that ended up being the fault of the serial cable i was using..

bought an older model IBM thinkpad (380ED) that uses win95 (think my friend's used 98). i loaded the software the same way.....connected with same cable....and it keeps telling me to reconnect haltech.

what the hell.....

anyone have ideas??????? im supposed to hit the dyno on saturday (if i can get everything else working mechanically right and get the haltech online)

please help....

Nic
