Unhappy Cannot get the haltech to communicate!

When I try to connect the laptop to the haltech loading the ECU it just stays on the loadung screen 0 to 100% without moving. What could cause this?

I tried changing com ports nothing. ALso tried changing the baud rate.

Thanks,
Ian

What operating system? E6K will not work with XP. best to use DOS or Win98 or lower operating system. do a search and you will see previous discussions.

is the COM port setting set correctly? this is one thing people overlook sometimes. serial *may* be set to COM3 and you have COM1 selected in haltech....

Can you load to offline mode and then "switch" mode?
Alt-S I think?
You also need to verify that the Haltech proggie program settings (i.e. COM port) is the same with your computer COM port?

Haltech only switches between com1 and com2.

I've tried both. Both don't work.

i know it only switches between 1 and 2. i was saying to check and see what port your serial actualy is. in device manager or something through windows.... i have seen it more than once that the way the COM was setup through the laptop, that it was configured for COM3 or COM4.
also try to restart computer in dos and use the c prompt to change directory and go into haltech completely through DOS....

I see

I will check. Also I've found out there is a program just for us compaq users so I will try this as well.

Thanks for the help!

I have to go into the bios settings if my laptop sits unused for a while. default port settings are not the same as Haltech port settings on my Compaq laptop.

port settings? you just mean com port?
Maybe I should look at the bios of my computer. One more thing to check.

Thanks,

I am no computer expert but I do on occasion need to reset the bios if it sit for to long(battery drains completely). seems windows doesn't recognise the bios settings and then the haltech doesn't communicate. after I reset the bios it works. first time it happened I was very frustrated, but luckily a friend lent me his laptop and I was able to see the problem. good luck.

I've only started to fiddle on the computer side of this recently, and I know Win98 lets to hard-set the COM port settings (which should be "00") so it automatically selects COM1 all the time.

You should not be using the parallel port either, cause I think this causes conflicts with COM1.

If you have IR ports, turn them all off, as I know my IBM ThinkPad had conflicts with COM1 with the IR port active.

Thanks,

Found out there was a irq com port error between my com 1 and modem. Plus I'm using the compaq software now.
