Ben Strader's book, the first link, is OK. If you ever think about taking the EFI 101 course just save yourself the money and buy the book. The course is pretty much the book verbatim and IMO not very informative.

There's another thread already going in another forum on this subject. I just ordered Banish's book so I should have a review of it in another week or so.

I would suggest to anybody that is interested in learning the intricacies of engine management systems as well as how an engine works to take the EFI University 101 and Advanced seminars, they will give you plenty of information that is very useful and valuable.

I have Ben's book, i also have this one:

The Hartman book is one I suggested in the other thread. Best I've read of maybe 6-7 other books I own.

Claudio, was your 101 course really that informative? There were about 40 guys in our class and all but about 5-6 of that group were refering to it as remedial EFI. Our class was really just the instructor reading Ben's book to us. Of two days total time spent actually seeing the instructor do something with a system was about an hour. Myself and others were fairly disappointed.

Best part of the course was when a student asked about tuning timing on a rotary. The instructor had been telling us to tune by advancing timing on the dyno until we reached peak torque or encountered detonation. Can't risk detonation with a rotary so how do you do it?. Instructor told him he needed to "contact someone like Steve Kahn".

Hahahaha! that just boils my blood to hear something like that. My 101 was with Ben Strader himself which is just priceless on his own. He also goes through the 101 manual explaining things, but he makes it more interesting and he's such a swell guy. I have yet to take the advance, eventually i'd like to take the ACP, Motec and EFILive, my goals are to be capable of tackling any engine management system. I actually have those books too and have read them, most of the stuff in there i already knew but its still good so you can brush up.

That remark about Steve Kahn isnt very appropriate, the correct answer would've been to start with a conservative timing map and work your way up, carefully and slowly. As we all know timing on rotaries is a very delicate thing and it will make or brake your engine very easily. It probably means that the guy didnt have much experience on rotaries.

Not to brag or anything, but i've actually interviewed with Ben in the hopes of becoming an EFI instructor, but alas, my experience is still on the poor side according to him.

Maybe one day it will happen.

I received Greg Banish's "Engine Management: Advanced Tuning" yesterday and am about half way through it now. It's worth the read for sure. It's very tuning intensive and doesn't cover types of sensors and diagnostic tools like some of the other books but it's heavier on practical/applicable theory than most others as well. IMO this book along with "How to Tune and Modify..." and you can't go wrong.

Finished the Banish book today. Don't think he specifically touches on anything that was overlooked in the "How to Tune and Modify..." book but he certainly writes in a different manner. It's very clear and concise. Didn't pick up any big tips but it was a good read and I'd recommend it for sure.

I ordered that "How to Tune and Modify Engine Management Systems" by Jeff Hartman. Hopefully, it will help me understand this whole "tuning" thing

Right now, car runs good except for when it warms up (It leans out). I believe my coolant temp correction map is off but I don't want to start hitting buttons before I know what I'm doing.

Hopefully, will get the car to you in January.
