Backwards CAS gear and the E6K

I've posted this somewhere else and I believe I got my answer, but just to make sure, I was told to address this to Mr. C. Ludwig:

Being the idiot that I am, I performed the last part of my rebuild half asleep, and very likely put on the CAS gear the wrong way on the e-shaft.

The reason I say this is that I've never had problems setting up initial timing with the values I've always had in the e6k (been running it since 2008).

I'm doing things the exact same way now, with the timing locked to -5 (car warmed up), and trying to hunt for the -5 yellow marker with a timing gun, except this time, I have to turn the CAS way way past the slot range to get close to the yellow mark, and it literally causes the car to drop rpms (from around 1,100) and stall, if I get within a 1/4" distance of it on the pulley. The car idles fine about a half to 3/4" away from the yellow mark, but I obviously have no idea what timing that is.

A fellow Australian enthusiast advised me to play around with the trigger angle until the yellow mark and the needle line up (AusRotary.com • View topic - Distributor gear polarity) and this was echoed by misterstyx69 in his reply to a similar post I made here: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati.../#post11740894

So... my question is, could you, Mr. C. Ludwig (or anyone else who feels like chiming in) please confirm that this is a feasible way to go about it, to save myself the hassle of taking off the front cover [risking pinching a bearing] or (shudder) pulling the engine and flipping the gear?

Many thanks in advance, and apologies for a somewhat longwinded post.
