1K resistor

Why should there be a 1K resistor installed on the 3 wires running to the igntor on an FD????

Where did you hear/see this? I know that on some installations where a magnetic pickup is used, you need to use a resistor inline with the pickup to protect it from too much current flow (trigger noise reduction is of course an added benefit.) The only other thing I could think of here is that perhaps the ignitor is sensitive to high trigger signal voltages, and needs that resistor in order to protect it. Any other thoughts?

That must have been with the first batch of E6Ks. I have had my unit for about 3 years now and that is the first I have heard of that.

I'm curious how a resistor would 'boost' the signal.

when I purchased my E6K from Ari he gave me his wiring diagram which included the 1K resistor. I used it for a year or so and after purchasing another E6K I spoke to the tech guys in Australia and they had no idea why it should be installed. the engine ran fine with the resistor and when I removed it it still ran the same. I would say not necessary but it shouldn't hurt anything.

I have a bad Tach signal

When I try to boost (load) at about 4000RPM The car bucks back and forth back firing AT the SAME TIME
I notice the tach goes hay wire and then it clears and the car accelerates smooth

Before the tach would go real crazy I changed the trail coil and got a more stable tach signal except for under heavy load levels

You guys think I would need a resistor?
would a resistor found on the 1st gen 12A distributers work?

I don't know the value of the 12a distributor resistor but the one I used can be bought at radio shack for about $1 for 5 resistors. I don't think this is your problem though. but it won't hurt anything if installed correctly.
