SBG: Competition Rear Brake Kit - Pre-Sale
The wait is finally coming to an end ... we're wrapping up production on our long awaited rear brake kit (sorry for the extended wait everyone and thank you for your patience). Pre-sale ordering is now available on our website here -> FD3S: Competition Rear Brake System - SakeBomb Garage LLC
We are in the middle of a production run for 12 kits, and are taking pre-orders starting today. The pre-sale price is reflected on our website, however as stated previously we will be giving a further discount to those purchasing our front AP Competition Front Kit at the same time (or for customers who have previously purchased our front kit, please email us with your order number -> info@sakebombgarage.com ).
If you have any questions please post in this thread or email us and we'll do our best to answer them . Details below:
Our goal for this rear braking system was to provide a high-torque rear brake solution for the FD RX-7 which retains the stock e-brake. This rear brake system was developed to be used in conjunction with our AP Competition Front Brake Kit for the RX-7. While our Competition Front Brake Kit performs exceptionally well, the stock rears (or '99 spec for that matter) left some additional braking potential on the table. Our rear brake kit utilizes the stock caliper with a billet 6061 aluminum relocation bracket to increase and optomize rear brake torque by allowing the use of our custom 330mm two piece rotor (vs 294mm stock rotor). Our rotor is designed with a hard anodized aircraft grade aluminum billet 2024 hat to withstand extreme temperatures, and is mated to our 330mm directional curved vane discs.
This rear brake kit combined with our AP Competition Front Brake Kit for the FD3S RX-7, represents the pinacle of competion braking packages for the FD, while retaining the streetability required to drive to the track and back.
Our Brake Package Includes:
- Custom SBG Two-piece Brake Rotors (330x20mm) with Aluminum 2024 Hard Anodized Hats
- 6061-T6 Caliper Relocation Brackets
- Hardware
- Installation Instructions
- Brake pads and lines are NOT included but optional*
SBG Rear Brake Kit Specs & Benefits:
- Increased disc diameter to 330x32mm (from 294mm stock)
- Lightweight two-piece rotors
- Directional curved vanes rings for increased cooling efficiency (compared to stock and '99 spec straight vane rotors)
- Retains e-brake, stock lines, stock pads
*17" rims or larger are required. This brake kit WILL NOT WORK the the stock 16" rims.
**This rear brake kit has been designed to ONLY be used with our FD3S AP Competition Front Brake Kit. We do not reccomend the use of this rear brake kit without the addition of our AP Competition Front Brake Kit. Installing this kit on your vehicle without the AP Competition Front Brake Kit WILL REQUIRE the installation of a proportioning valve so you may safely correct & adjust the rear brake bias. Installing this rear brake kit with any front braking system other than our FD3S AP Competition Front Brake Kit may create an unsafe condition and is not recommended. Install at your own risk.

20mm which is the stock disc thickness, however the diameter is 330mm. The rotor mass and cooling is significantly increased and anything larger is added cost and weight, not to mention loosing your e-brake. Our fronts are 32mm thick rotors but increased thickness is only a benefit in the front.

There's always a worry about replacement discs, but RacingBrake has already phased out the FD rear brake kit (320mm) and the 99 spec disc (314mm) isn't especially easy to get your hands on either. If you're worried about the brake setup being future proof I can always sell you additional rings to throw on a shelf but I can assure you we'll be around long into the future. (or so we hope )

Correct. We could have made it cheaper if we did not use 2024 heat-stable aerospace grade aluminum and cut a number of other corners, but yes you are correct... for $1000 dollars you get two rotors, relocation brackets, and hardware. No more expensive than the now defunct racing brake kit or 99 spec rear brakes... and significantly larger and lighter with relatively low cost replacement rings.
For $2500 dollars we could have created a kit that additionally loses your ebrake, weighs significantly more, costs nearly three times the cost, and provides no better braking performance compared to our setup - but looks bling bling big baller. If you don't mind the added weight and or cost we're happy to develop a more expensive rear kit, but to be honest... cost wise, weight wise, and brake performance wise this is the best compromise.
Likewise our competition front kit isn't painted red, is lightweight, ultra efficient, and built for competition use. Anti-knockback springs / low drag seals, 2024 heat stable hats, racing grade rings which are affordable to replace, etc.

We're getting there. Hats and brackets are done but we're still waiting on rotors. It shouldn't be too long now... we're hoping for a couple weeks tops to have them in the mail. We'll post some pics soon.
