I'm on the fence for these as I have some serious safety concerns. They cost a fair amount and so far no way to tell how they actually compare to OEM or something FIA certified.
Have they provided any internal pics where they say metal is used to reinforce the mounting area?

this replica seats are "not certified" to the safety aspect "yet"
to know if the reinforce of the mounting area are metal...use a magnet or metal detector or drill thru it to see which would be wrecking it.
for the peace of mind on the safety aspect just stick to the real OEM recaro seats..which would cost about around $1500 more on top of this replica and shipping cost also.
go look at this link http://www.fdrx7.com/forum/showthrea...t=14546&page=5
so far one person in Australia have test it out and comment it on this replica seats

"A seatback support must be made to hold the seat from going back in the event of a
crash. A plate should be used to distribute the load. No bolts, corners, or sharp objects
should be placed is such a manner that could lead to a possible puncture of the driver in
a high impact crash. Proper design and installation is crucial to safety and it is
recommend that the driver employ the services of a professional race car builder for this,
as well as all other vehicle safety items. An exception may be made for those seats
homologated to, and mounted in accordance, with FIA 8855-1999 standards. Those
seats that qualify for the aforementioned exception must conform to the entire FIA 8855-
1999 set of regulations. This includes a mandatory seat replacement of any seat more
than five (5) years old."
Please reference the FIA regulations. www.fia.com/
This is how both seats are engineered. Unfortunately for Us, Spirit R nor RZ seats are no longer Valid and are expired base on the FIA 5 year rule. this group buy is for the individual who wants the looks, increased lateral support, increased head room, and wieght reduction of the originals with out sacrificing the cash. This group buy has allowed me to get the seats I want, H2O/meth injection, and dual oil coolers WITH cash left over.
I don't think anyone would argue that FD stands for "Financially Draining" when it comes to the good and bad- so why not save a buck where you can?

I understand for those who are worried about racing rules and what not. But I think if you're tracking the FD, you would want a modern safety approved seat as opposed to a seat that is going on 21yrs old now.
It is reversed engineered from the original, and from the looks of things, they are identical.
I mainly want them because the seat is lighter than the current leather seats I have, and seeing as how my car is only driven on sunny days, having leather seating surfaces is murder during the summer.
I've always wanted these seats since they were offered from the factory but sadly they were never offered over here in North America.
So what are we up too now? 13 or 14 people?
