I just wanted to chime in and share some news! We got our second batch of samples with the most recent design changes and things are looking GOOD.
All the updates we requested happened and we are DONE with noodling. No more updates, no more delays. What you see above IS the tank you will be receiving.
In case you haven't been following all the updates, this latest round added:
- Drill guides to the bosses (we had concerns over non-centered nozzle/sensor placement causing leaking)
- Cleaned up fill neck
- Revised placement on one sensor boss to clear interior panels
- A second sensor boss down in the sump
That's it. No more. Finito. We are now moving into full on production.
Additionally, we sent one of the prototypes out into the world to get some feedback and Bryan Nickell (you know him as "the guy from BNR") was kind enough to install and test the tank in his car...
We gave it to him with no instructions or conditions and he managed to install it flawlessly. The end product is something we are all super proud of.
So, when will yours be in hand? It's looking like February. But we will know more once production has wrapped and we have a tracking / bill of laden number.
All this is to say... THANK YOU. Thank you to all of you. Thank you to the RX-7 community. Thank you to SakeBomb Garage for their support.
Just a quick update, these are in production. Molds are done, plastic is being poured, shipping is all arranged.
Here's what we're up against right now. Chinese New Year is February 5th. Everything we've been doing timetable-wise is to have these done and on the boat before then. So far, so good. However, the factory closes January 22nd in order to give everyone time to make it back home to their families and doesn't reopen until end of February. We currently have pickup scheduled for January 18th.
I'm crossing my fingers and the factory is doing everything they can to make sure these are on that boat. I'll continue to keep you guys posted.

Yes.Yes they did.
I just got confirmation that they left the factory and are en route to port - they should arrive within a couple days. Once they hit the port, I should receive another update when they are loaded on our ship. The current ETA for being in port in Oakland (closest port to SBG) is February 17th. From there, it will take a week or two to get them out of customs and to SakeBomb Garage. From THERE, my plan is to fly out to Fremont and help Heath and the crew unload, box, package and ship these things.
So in the US in February, shipping beginning of March seems like how it's going to go down.
I also heard a rumor that SakeBomb will have brackets for the pumps very soon.....
Seriously though. Thanks for all your support and patience guys. Bringing this idea from concept to reality has been an incredibly fun learning experience.
We got confirmation the shipment should arrive in port (Oakland) on February 17th. After that, it's a week or two to clear customs and be delivered to SakeBomb Garage.
From there, it's a matter of boxing up 100 tanks, generating shipping labels, etc, etc. Soooo, I would *expect* these to start shipping in about 3 weeks? The week of March 4th seems conceivable that tracking numbers start going out.

I've ordered the tank, I'll be in the San Fran Bay Area to visit SBG in person early March, I want to know HOW MANY nozzles I should run (the kit comes with ONE) but I have friends here in Australia running THREE (one nozzle at each turbo compressor face, and one at the throttle elbow) and swear this causes no probs with the turbos, when I questioned SBG about it, they claim having nozzles at the turbo's wil, prematurely wear/damage them. Can anybody shed any light??...

the AEM instructions include a table for nozzle selection:
for example in my case: i'm planning on around 400hp at 10-25psi of boost so i need to use one 1000cc nozzle.
also note that the controller is progressive and the nozzle size is the MAX CC's(@25PSI setting on controller)
Also, pre-turbo injection will over time cause damage to the compressor blades, they are made of soft aluminum and spin very high speeds, throwing liquid at them at those speeds will cause erosion on the leading edge of the blades as they are essentially "chopping" through the liquid.

There is also well documented evidence that pre-turbo injection does not cause significant compressor damage if there is proper atomisation of the water and/or methanol and the injector is situated at the correct distance from the compressor. Pre-turbo WI has been tested extensively in motor racing and aviation circles for decades. Volvo conducted extensive testing in the 1980s and found that there was impeller damage...after 80,000 to 100,000 miles of use.
One of the reasons the mechanical WI systems are so good for pre-turbo application is they use air atomising nozzles - the kind used in industrial applications, similar to paint spray guns. The nozzle is fed with high pressure air from the turbocharger to atomise the mixture. The compressor blades will be chopping through vapour, not liquid.
The pre vs post-turbo debate is far from settled and probably will never be, but it's not a simple matter of saying pre-turbo will cause damage, full stop. To my mind, the most successful implementations of WI on rotaries have been simple cheap mechanical pre-turbo systems.

You are absolutely correct, there is plenty of evidence supporting both sides of the argument, but personally i just don't see the benefits of pre-turbo being worth it. i'm also not chasing dyno numbers over 4-500 or trying to win any competitions. it all depends on what you are trying to achieve.
