So the engineer is days away from competition of reverse engineering on the handle.

I have instructed him to make the core hollow for lighter weight and less material cost during production, A picture is below.

What do you think? Opinions or suggestions?

Count me in as interested. Would want close to stock look or plain aluminum w/clear coat.

 

I'm still interested but what are the options really? I just want black aluminum for the outside holding peice and then for the actual handle I want a nice oem look with leather, plastic dip or maybe cf depending on which looks the most presentable/ NOT gaudy.

 

Just came to mind, me being a euro biased bastard an all. The germans all used brushed aluminum. Could you do the same as thing as tyhe first picture you posted up on page 4 but instead of an oem leatherette dotted design do a nice smooth brushed or a smooth glass black finish for the actual handle peice. Something like this... I'll use BMW as a reference.

I think you are misunderstood a bit. I am only manufacturing the actual pistol grip handle in aluminum and not the wrap around plastic piece.

One more option that I could do is to spray plasti-dip or black gloss or flat paint on the handle and then sand the surface of the handle in a single direction to replicate a brushed look while leaving black in the dimples for definition.

 

The engineer has found it more than very difficult to digitally replicate the dimples across the back side of the handle where Mazda has a seam line. Apparently its not as simple as photoshop where you can just draw or copy and paste but it has to do with manipulating the "mesh" that makes up the model.

I wish this was not out of my hands but I am doing all I can do.

I am interested as well....I've been following this thread for some time.
I've 'fixed' mine and actually have a spare that is 'fixed' also and should never break again but...I kind of like the idea of the aluminum one. As far as I am concerned...the dimples are not that big of a deal. It could be smooth for all I care. Anodized black is what I am most interested in....depending on price of course. For ~$200 I am in for sure. More than that and...I might just stick with my repaired and strengthened stock unit.

 

I am still here, just patiently waiting.
