That said, i think the ones made in this thread is much much much better, as its a quality piece based on the original design, not just a quick cheap addon as the one Mazda made for the 99.
One functional point tho could be that the gas pedal is flat and smooth so you can adjust the gas while resting your heel on the floor. The other pedals dont have this type of use, since you usually either are using it or not.
^Those are the pedals available as an option on all FD models up until somewhere around 1999-2000. After then they were not an option, you were offered the titanium pedals instead.
They look okay from a distance, but they're just covers that bolt on top of a stock plastic pedal. They're slightly larger than the stock pedal and some of the holes are partially coverd by plastic and partially see though. You can also see the pattern of the stock pedal through the holes. Doesn't look overly great.

I agree with everyone here that they look absolutely fantastic. I think it would be of great importance to Sideo, after putting in all of this effort, that he make a safe and usable pedal.
I think it's a fair point brought up prior, that the smooth finish of the "other Mazda pedals" was done for a specific reason. We should understand that and be sure.
there saying the smooth surface would be better because mazda made that one in the above pictures that way (which i also have) but i think its more along the lines of it was cheaper stick a metal cover with holes in it as an option rather then actually making a pedal like this one

Guys, I'm not saying this pedal design is unsafe. It was brought my another member here and I thought he raised a good point. Engineers, automakers; they do stuff for a reason. Sometimes it's cost cutting but other times it could be safety. We don't know.
It it would only make sense to test the pedals in the real world and see how they feel is all I'm saying. No sense in making a batch of 50 pedals only to discover that during light throttle applications your shoe gets snagged on one of the holes and you have to lift your foot off the pedal.
Perhaps it wouldn't be a safety issue but instead just an annoyance. All I said is: "hey that's a good point, let's test it out".

The point isn't that they came out with these optional pedals (which is surely just extra sales as you say), but that most accelerator pedals are smooth instead of having a textured grip, so that your foot can move freely as you adjust the pedal.
But, every design iteration delays production and adds to sunken costs...
Tweak it one more time!
On topic, though, it is common practice in cars with all alloy pedals for the gas pedal to have a smoother finish than the clutch or brake pedal; and it is for the reason mentioned, so that the pedal does not stick to and pull the drivers shoe with it as the pedal moves. I don't think it's a rule that's universally adhered to, but it is intended to prevent the driver from needing to make added heel adjustments as he/she modulates the pedal.
