modded FC3S LED FTPs ver. 2.0

i found some new materials to replace the original modded FTPs and volunteered my girlfriend's FC to be chopped up to see how the new version FTPs would look(she better not complain since i gave her the car ).

after tearing the FTPs apart to do the new version it takes a bit more work than originally anticipated to unglue and seperate the cases and remove all the butyl sealant that mazda used to assemble the FTPs(it needs to be heated, kept warm and scraped off..). so the price will be a little more than the original version 1.0 modded FTPs but the end result i think is worth the price considering you will be getting virtually new re-polished FTPs with repaired studs(if you can supply me with the original studs).

for now i have enough LED materials to do about 8 sets of this version but i still need to locate more core FTP lenses to start an exchange program. that said, as of now anyone who is interested in these modded FTPs can send me your originals and i can modify, polish, repair and send them back to you,.

so until i get the cores this will be a flat charge of $100 plus shipping of $8 within the US. you can PM me first and i will give you the shipping information and then you can send payment to my paypal account at: ktm0012@sbcglobal.net

and last but not least here is the original picture, i will get some more posted up a little later of a shot in the evening time.

it being light outside really does not do them justice. IMO they would also look much better on a car with HIDs and black in color. i also have them wired up to the parking lights but you can wire them up to the headlights to come on when they are on. on a side note i masked and painted the LED strips with latex around the LEDs to give them a more subtle look versus the exposed cord that would have originally been seen through the lenses.

next up will be modding S5 tails with LEDs.

Very nice. If I hadn't already done this I would totally get you to do a pair for me. Looks much more factory than mine.

Will be picking these up! just as soon as I get my S5 conversion finished. What kind of connectors are on these?

For the LED Tails, I think a dual ring setup would be the most visually appealing.

for now i have just a grounding ring and leaving the positive end bare to wire in to whichever signal the person wants as you can wire them up to come on with the healights, the front markers(they will flash with the turns if you do that) or with the side markers which will be on with the parking lamps.

Nice indeed. I'd really like to see that night picture as well before deciding on an order. Can you also take a picture of the FTP itself?

the price for now is $100 plus $8 shipping if you provide the cores.

the core service will be when i find enough sets to do a few at a time for those who don't want to have their car without FTPs for a week or 2 while having the modification done. the core charge will be $25 which will be refunded when i recieve the customer's cores in decent rebuildable condition(ie no cracks in the lenses or busted cracked housings, the lenses can be repolished and the studs remounted).

note:another thing to note the S5 FTPs can be disassembled without cutting, the S4 FTPs need to be cut apart carefully so keep in mind that the S4 versions will have more sealant/epoxy on the outer edge to reassemble them(inside they will be perfectly clean, the outer edge will show epoxy hidden by the bumper cavity). i'll get pics of just the FTPs as soon as i am done with this set of S4's for my car that i have revised with version 2.1 with a diffuser sheet to keep more light from reflecting inside the housing.

and disclaimer; these are not a DOT legal modification, although most newer cars utilize this same technique, it costs money to get DOT testing and approval so check with your local authorities if you think this is something you want to install on your car. much the same as most HID headlight conversions are not legal most of the time it isn't an issue because most newer cars use the same technology/techniques.

lol, i just want to get them installed onto my car with the HIDs and use the new diffused ones which have a skirt to prevent light from bouncing around inside the FTP housing at night off of the front glass.

here is an off the car shot, still haven't finished the other side for my car. this is the diffused style with divider to keep light from bouncing off the lens.

anyone need any lampshades?

here is the stud repairs, reinforced with a nylon sleeve and epoxy to keep the FTPs in the car more solidly than the original mazda design, no one likes having their new shiny FTPs falling out on the freeway... the new mounting surface is nearly twice as stout.

the sample stud was still intact, broken/repaired studs won't appear quite as clean after repairs.

and prior to repairs:

i have also omitted the sealant from the LEDs to eliminate some of the purple tint that the white color LEDs were emitting, sealed them with clear coat then a coat of latex black paint to get rid of the copper color circuitry showing through the FTPs. eventually i want to figure out a better diffuser design but it really is difficult working in the tight confine area where the LED strips have to go, especially on the S4 lenses which have to be cut and have a narrower area between the front lens cover and the black plastic housing when reassembled.
