Since he takes some material off, do you know if it's necessary to get the apex seals as in maybe OEM one's won't make up for the gap?

 

The amount of material removed as near as i can tell is very very small, and AFAIK you can use any apex seal you wish with them just like any other housing.

 

I've heard the only stupid question is the one which wasn't asked, so here goes:

Does the guy who fixes the rotor housings have some jig to keep the original shape (trochoid? or whatever), or is the amount of material added so small that it does the job and isn't needed (I guess he would smooth out the material added).

Been a while since I've been to this section and I saw a link to here from the "Goopy street motor build..."

 

as far as I can tell from this thread, he takes away some material (very little) more then he adds. the surface does have to be smooth and flat to the contours of the housings so I would assume he does use a jig of some sort.

 

as far as pricing for resurfacing, I just called Goopy's today and was told $200 per set

 

So he almost doubled the price?

 

I asked Jonathan about this yesterday. What they have done is to change their pricing structure so that if you use his apex seals and have the housings done its still $125 a set. If you just want the housings done, its $200 for the set.
Still a more than fair price. In fact I have more housings ready to send him now, and he is doing some RX8 engine development for me.

 

This probably has already been asked but:

1) how thick is the chrome plating on a stock housing?
2) how much does Goopy remove?
3) Any idea as to how long housings will last after being resurfaced?
4) if necessary is it possible to get a second resurfacing out of a housing? or is it one and done?

 

on another rotary forum, judge ito said his daughter has been running goopy resurfaced housings for 3 years and she is not easy on the car. they did hers as a test subject. they checked on them sometime later (maybe the 3 years?) and compression was 119+ on all faces I think he said. so they seem pretty good. Judge ito approves, he had plenty of comments and input on them (idk if I can post the link to the thread I found it on. first rule of rx7club:don't acknowledge the existence of any other rx7 forum.lol)
