Question Will 1st-gen 5-speed fit 2nd gen?

Hi all,
I have an '85 which I'm parting out. a Friend needs a trans in his 2nd gen (year unknown - can find out if it matters). Will it fit/bolt in with no mods?
Thanks,
~ Paul

The transmission will fit but you need to remove the tailshaft housing from the '85 trans and install the 2nd gen trans tailshaft housing on the '85 gearbox. Clear as mud?

Go to this site and check out the info http://mrmazda.no-ip.com/interchange.html#TBPATTERN

You're solution is clear but the page you referred me to is a little muddy. :-)

I feel the same way about having to listen to freakin' SPANISH before I can even get to a list of buttons to press for options! LET THE DAMN ILLEGALS LEARN ENGLISH!
Thanks,

You can only swap the tail shaft over if it is a S4 N/A transmission. Meaning that his 2nd gen is a 86-88 Non-turbo vehicle. The FB tail shaft housing will not fit on the S5 transmissions.

I know it's a non-turbo. I'll let him know tomorrow & find out more info on it.
Thanks,

Turned out his vibration was in the driveshaft, not the trans. Don't know why he didn't notice that when he put the clutch in....
Anyway thanks again for the help, guys. Trans is available if anyone wants it for $75.

Paul - I'm interested in this transmission. Unfortunately, my posts are less than 10 = I can't PM you here. Please PM me and I will be able to reply (at least I'd guess). I'm located in SC.

Thanks in advance.

I don't see any way to PM folks. Maybe I don't have enough posts either, or the link just dosen't show in Opera.
You can email me at ImThaDriver at yahoo.
