Where is my 5-7k and power after 100mph?

Hey guys I gotta 85GS-mint condition.Cats were clogged- I bought a midpipe w/hi flow cat from a friend that said it increased performance on his 7-it goes from stock to 2.5' back to stock...then to hi flow cat and stock exhaust-I am planning on strait pipe now since I'm in MO instead of CA but...the problem is I pick up well until 5-7k where most rotarys love to be.I can scratch 2nd and 3rd at about 7k no problem, but it just doesnt have the power of my old gsl or sa22c. It goes ok until 100 mph but it wont go any faster unless I'm going downhill-the fastest its been up to on a good day is 110-definetly the slowest rx7 I've ever owned...I have trouble beating a stock crx on a freeway!!I'm not used to that whatsoever and enjoy shuttin honda's down every chance I get-
I want to get a new carb/intake setup along w/ a header and new midpipe to strait pipes-I'm sure this will make my car faster, but, for now, whats the problem with my car? HELP PLEASE

My repu had the same problem when I bought it (bought it cheap because the engine felt so weak). In my case the problem was that the carberator's secondaries were not opening because the truck had been sitting idle for many months and the butterfly shaft had corroded to the carberator body. The secondaries are vacuum activated, so the acellerator pedal felt normal. A squirt of liquid wrench and twisting the shaft by hand until it freed up fixed my repu. Your car came with a similar carberator unless it is an SE.
