If your S5 has 4-piston fronts, they are all basically the same.
There's no advantage by using the FD brake calipers.

If they're all basically the same, would a big brake kit made for a FD fit on a FC? Or are there certain aspects to the FD braking system that would keep that from happening (bolt locations and such)?

Why do you need a big brake kit?

Would there be any way to get it to work, or would that be too much of a hassle and wouldn't be worth the time or money?

1. Building an open track car and I'm aiming for about 500rwhp on race gas. Would like to have the stopping power to go with it.
2. Can never go overboard on the braking system IMHO.

Okay, how about you build the car first, and then we'll talk about brakes...

Sure, just trying to soak up as much information on different routes of modifications as I can so I can do it right, and do it once.

How hard is the conversion to do?

I'm due for a front 5-lug swap on my FC3S and would prefer the larger front FD3S brakes if the swap is easy to pull off.

Has anyone done this?

RETed - Maybe you could elaborate on it more?

The 4 piston FC and the FD calipers are only different in the castings. Internally they are the same and have no advantage over each other. The FD just uses a larger diameter rotor. If you try to install an FD caliper on an FC rotor however it won't fit as the differences in castings will become apparent.

If you are doing a 4 lug to 5 lug conversion, you need to change the master cylinder and the brake booster as well. These are different and the car will not stop very well if you don't. I learned this the hard way.

I have FD calipers on my FC rotors. They fit fine.

I used them to clear my front drag wheels. My FC 4 piston calipers did not clear.

That's interesting. When I tried to bolt them on mine, they just barely hit the tops of the rotors.

Odd.. I can take some pictures, but I thought it was a fairly common thing to do (mostly for aesthetics I thought).
